A Sub-Zero is usually built into the kitchen, so when it warms up or flashes Service, replacing it is rarely the easy answer. ALAS repairs Sub-Zero refrigerators, freezers, ice makers and wine storage for Dallas–Fort Worth households as an independent shop, and the estimate comes in writing first.

Sub-Zero warming up with food inside? Keep the doors shut and schedule online or by phone; after-hours appointments cost extra.
Book NowSub-Zero makes refrigeration and nothing else: full-size Classic, Designer and PRO units, columns, undercounter refrigerators and drawers, ice makers and wine storage. Its parent, Sub-Zero Group in Madison, Wisconsin, also makes Wolf cooking products and Cove dishwashers, which are separate brands. Sub-Zero publishes detailed owner answers, and they shape how we work: a Service or Vacuum Condenser message starts with a thermometer and a clean condenser, EC50 and EC40 are only cleared once temperatures recover, and EE or EC 06 go straight to sensor testing. ALAS follows those steps, then tests fans, sensors, controls and the sealed system on site, with the unit left in its cabinetry wherever possible. You get the price in writing before any repair. We are independent of Sub-Zero’s Factory Certified Service program and have served Dallas–Fort Worth homeowners since 2019.

Each guide follows a Sub-Zero owner answer and links back to it. Sub-Zero files codes by series, so each guide names the series it applies to.
Call with the code and the series, and we’ll explain Sub-Zero’s answer for it.

ALAS technicians service the appliances homeowners and businesses rely on every day, from kitchen and laundry equipment to commercial refrigeration.
Keep your Sub-Zero appliances on a maintenance schedule, with priority scheduling and savings on repairs.
Scheduled maintenance and priority dispatch for the Sub-Zero equipment your business depends on.
Refrigerator or freezer warming? Keep the doors shut and book the next opening.Keep the doors closed and put a thermometer in each section. Per FoodSafety.gov, food in an unopened refrigerator stays safe for roughly 4 hours without cooling, and Sub-Zero advises against keeping food above 45°F. Then book online or by phone for the next available opening.
Sub-Zero’s US residential warranty runs a full two years on all parts and labor from the date of original installation, a full five years on the sealed system (compressor, condenser, evaporator, drier and connecting tubing), and a limited twelve years on those sealed-system parts, with the owner covering labor in the later years. Sub-Zero states that warranty service must be performed by its factory certified service (Sub-Zero warranty (opens in a new tab)).
That is why the first call on a newer Sub-Zero belongs to Sub-Zero. ALAS is independent and not part of that network. We repair Sub-Zero units after the coverage that applies has ended, or whenever an owner prefers an independent technician, with a written estimate first and our own warranty. Our refrigerator, ice maker and wine storage pages explain what that looks like for each product.
Several of Sub-Zero’s messages, Service, Vacuum Condenser, EC50 and EC40, come back to the same advice when temperatures are still close to normal: clean the condenser. Sub-Zero’s interval is every six to twelve months, with a soft brush vacuum attachment and no chemicals. On Classic built-ins the condenser is behind the bottom grille; on 700 Series and undercounter units, behind the kickplate.
Sub-Zero also warns that on Designer and 700 Series units a kickplate covered by a custom toe kick or enclosed by cabinetry can cause sealed-system failure over time. If your kitchen was remodeled around a Sub-Zero, that is worth checking. When a clean condenser doesn’t clear the message, start with our Service light guide.
Sub-Zero Group, Inc. describes itself as a third-generation, family-owned company headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin, making the Sub-Zero, Wolf and Cove brands. The company says it has been in business for more than 80 years and that Sub-Zero pioneered the concept of dual refrigeration (Sub-Zero Group (opens in a new tab)).
Wolf, acquired in 2000, makes ranges, cooktops, wall ovens and ventilation; Cove, launched in 2018, makes dishwashers. They are sister brands, not Sub-Zero products, so this page sticks to Sub-Zero refrigeration.
Sub-Zero sorts full-size refrigeration into three looks. Classic has the brand’s familiar grille and comes in stainless or a custom panel. Designer comes in fully integrated stainless or custom panel-ready designs, built to sit flush with the cabinetry. PRO is stainless inside and out and comes in two widths. Layouts include over-and-under, side-by-side, French door and column (Sub-Zero full-size refrigeration (opens in a new tab)).
The series matters for repair because Sub-Zero’s codes differ by series: EC50 and EC40 appear on 600, 700, 648PRO and IC-27 units, EE on Classic and undercounter models, and three-part runtime codes such as 40 1 40 on Classic built-ins. Your technician confirms the model and serial number on the rating plate before ordering parts.
Sub-Zero refrigeration of every type it sells: Classic, Designer and PRO built-in refrigerators and freezers in over-and-under, side-by-side, French-door and column layouts, undercounter refrigerators, freezers and drawers, refrigerator and undercounter ice makers, and wine storage.
No. ALAS works independently and has no business ties to Sub-Zero or Sub-Zero Group. Sub-Zero has its own Factory Certified Service network, and its warranty work goes through that network. We repair Sub-Zero units once that coverage has ended, or when an owner chooses an independent technician.
If your unit is inside Sub-Zero’s warranty, contact Sub-Zero first, because its warranty says service must come from factory certified service. Out of warranty, it is your choice. An independent company gives you its own written estimate and its own repair warranty.

Sub-Zero’s own checklist starts with the setting (38°F on electronic panels), the door and gasket, and a condenser cleaned within the last six months. Above 48°F at a 38°F setting, Sub-Zero says cleaning is unlikely to fix it. Our Sub-Zero refrigerator repair page goes further.
Sub-Zero ties it to excessive compressor run and a possible cooling issue. See our Service light guide.
In the US, Sub-Zero lists a full two-year warranty on parts and labor, a full five-year sealed-system warranty, and a limited twelve-year sealed-system warranty that covers the parts (Sub-Zero warranty (opens in a new tab)).
Every six to twelve months, according to Sub-Zero. Depending on the series, the condenser sits behind a grille or a kickplate.
Most repairs, yes: fans, sensors, controls, gaskets, ice makers and condenser work are usually done in place. If a repair needs the unit moved, we tell you before any work starts.
The model, the failed part and how much access the cabinetry allows. We find the cause first and put the price in writing before starting. For current visit pricing, call (469) 638-3215 and ask our office.
ALAS covers its Sub-Zero repairs for 90 days, extended to 6 months for members, and compressor or refrigerant repairs carry a 12-month term for everyone. Your invoice lists the terms.
