The brand belongs to Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon, Wisconsin, the same company behind Speed Queen machines in laundromats and apartment laundry rooms, and its home washers and dryers carry that commercial background into the house. Owners tend to keep them a long time, and Speed Queen backs them with three, five or seven years of parts and labor depending on the series. When a Speed Queen in a Dallas–Fort Worth home stops working, the questions are usually simple: what does the code or symptom mean, is the machine still covered, and is it worth fixing. Speed Queen’s Warranty, Series by Series

Speed Queen’s warranty length follows the model series, not the purchase date or the store. On its product pages Speed Queen lists parts and labor coverage of 3 years for the TR3 washer and DR3 dryer; 5 years for the TC5 washer, TR5 washer, FF7 front-loader, DC5 and DR5 dryers, DF7 front-load dryer and SF7 stacked unit; and 7 years for the TR7 washer and DR7 dryer (Speed Queen lineup (opens in a new tab)).

Two limits are worth knowing. Speed Queen’s user’s guides say a machine in multi-user or commercial use is covered for three years, parts only. They also list calls that aren’t product failures, so the owner pays for them: plugged drains and fill screens, blocked or kinked dryer venting, home electrical and gas problems, and objects caught in the machine. Calling Speed Queen Versus a Local Technician

If your Speed Queen is inside its warranty term, use that coverage first; it includes labor, and Speed Queen takes repair requests through its own website. ALAS works independently of Speed Queen, and we would much prefer that you not pay for a repair the factory already owes you.

Once the term has ended, or when the problem falls on Speed Queen’s owner-responsibility list, a local technician makes sense. You get one written estimate, a visit scheduled around your week and our own repair warranty, which runs 90 days as standard and 6 months for members.

TC5, TR and FF7: Three Different Washers

The TC5 is Speed Queen’s classic agitator washer, with Classic Clean wash action, a two-speed motor and no lid lock, so you can open it mid-cycle. Its repairs are mostly mechanical: valves, pumps, belts and drive parts. The TR3, TR5 and TR7 switch to Speed Queen’s Perfect Wash and a delayed lid lock that engages after the first fill and agitation, and TR models with a display, such as the TR7, report faults as short Er codes.

The FF7 front-loader brings a door lock, a foreign object trap in front of the drain pump that owners can clean, and its own door codes such as Er dU. Knowing which machine you have narrows the diagnosis before we arrive, so tell us the series when you book.

Speed Queen in Laundromats and Apartment Buildings

Speed Queen has a long history in commercial laundry, and Speed Queen Commercial serves laundromats, multi-housing laundry rooms and on-premises laundries in places such as hospitality and healthcare (Speed Queen Commercial (opens in a new tab)). Those machines use different controls and literature than the home models.

No. We are a locally run, independent company with no tie to Speed Queen or Alliance Laundry Systems. Owners call us once the factory coverage has run out, or when they simply want a local technician, and every repair we do carries our own written repair warranty.

Speed Queen sets parts and labor coverage by series: 3 years on the TR3 and DR3; 5 years on the TC5, TR5, FF7, DC5, DR5, DF7 and SF7; and 7 years on the TR7 and DR7 (Speed Queen lineup (opens in a new tab)). Its user’s guides limit multi-user or commercial use to 3 years, parts only.

If the machine is still inside its warranty term, start with Speed Queen, since it covers parts and labor for that period. Once the term ends, or if the problem is one Speed Queen treats as owner responsibility, such as a plugged drain, dirty fill screens or a blocked dryer vent, a local independent technician is an option.

Speed Queen is a brand of Alliance Laundry Systems LLC, based in Ripon, Wisconsin (Alliance announcement (opens in a new tab)). Speed Queen’s catalog traces the brand to Ripon in 1908.

The TC5 uses Speed Queen’s Classic Clean agitation, has no lid lock and runs on simpler controls. The TR3, TR5 and TR7 use Perfect Wash and a delayed lid lock, and models with a time-remaining display, such as the TR7, report faults as Er codes. Both are agitator top-loaders.

Water was still in the washer at the end of the cycle. Check the drain hose and standpipe, and on front-loaders clean the foreign object trap. The steps are in our Er dr guide.

Check both breakers on an electric dryer and the gas valves on a gas dryer, then look for a kinked duct or a stuck outside hood flapper. After that, the heating parts need testing. See Speed Queen dryer repair.

On the serial plate on the machine. Speed Queen notes that on some black top-load washers the plate is on the back, directly behind the control panel.
