Oven and Range Repair Before Your Next Big Meal

An oven that won’t heat, a burner that clicks but never lights, or a door that stays locked after self-cleaning can stop dinner, and it always seems to happen before a holiday. ALAS Appliance Repair has been repairing ovens, stoves and ranges for Dallas–Fort Worth families since 2019. We repair gas, electric, dual-fuel and induction ranges, single and double wall ovens, convection and steam ovens, and pro-style ranges from Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Monogram, GE, Whirlpool, Samsung, LG and other major brands.

Every visit starts with a full diagnosis. We test the igniter, gas or safety valve, bake and broil elements, temperature sensor, door lock, convection fan and control board, and we check the oven’s actual temperature against the setting. Then we explain the problem and your repair options before any work begins. If you go ahead, the diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair.

Repair or replace

Repair or Replace Your Oven or Range?

Most ovens and ranges last about 13 to 15 years. A repair usually makes sense when the unit is younger than that and the fix costs less than half the price of a comparable new model. Wall ovens and pro-style ranges are almost always worth repairing because replacement often means new cabinetry or installation.

Usually worth repairing

  • The oven or range is under 10 years old
  • The problem is an igniter, element, sensor, door lock or switch
  • It is a wall oven, double oven or pro-style range
  • The oven cavity enamel is in good condition

Worth weighing carefully

  • The unit is more than 15 years old
  • The control board and several other parts have failed
  • The oven cavity is rusted or the enamel is badly chipped
  • Replacement parts are discontinued for your model

How it works

How Our Oven and Range Repair Process Works

Schedule Repair
  1. Book online or call

Tell us the brand, the model, whether it is gas, electric or dual-fuel, and what it is doing, including any error code. We confirm your appointment within 30 minutes, and a photo of the model label helps us bring the right parts.

  2. Diagnosis at your home

Your technician tests the igniter or elements, gas valve, temperature sensor, door lock and controls, and checks the real oven temperature to find the part that actually failed.

  3. Written estimate

You get the price in writing before any work starts. Nothing is repaired until you approve it.

  4. Repair, test and warranty

We complete the repair, run the oven up to temperature, check every burner and the door seal, and write the warranty terms on your invoice.

Oven and Range Repair FAQs

On gas ovens, the most common cause is a weak igniter that glows but cannot open the gas safety valve. A failed safety valve can do the same. On electric ovens, the usual causes are a burned-out bake element, a failed temperature sensor, relay or control board. Our technician tests each part so you only pay for the one that failed.

A gas oven igniter weakens over time. It still glows, but it no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve, so the burner never lights. Replacing the igniter fixes it in most cases, and it is one of the most common oven repairs we do.

A failing temperature sensor, a weak bake or broil element, a convection fan problem or an oven that is out of calibration can all cause uneven baking. Check the real temperature with an oven thermometer after 20 minutes of preheating. If it is off by more than about 25 degrees, the oven needs service.

Clogged burner ports, a burner cap that is not seated flat, moisture from a spill, a failed igniter or a faulty spark module are the usual causes. A burner that keeps clicking after it lights often has moisture in the switch or a failed spark switch.

The door stays locked until the oven cools down, which can take an hour or more. If it is still locked after the oven is cool, the usual causes are a failed door lock motor or switch, or a control board fault. Don’t force the door, since that can break the latch.

Self-cleaning heats the oven to around 900 degrees, which puts stress on the thermal fuse, sensors, door lock and control board. Many oven failures happen during or right after a self-clean. Wipe spills regularly, use a gentler steam-clean setting if your oven has one, and avoid self-cleaning right before a holiday.

A faint smell for a second when a burner lights is normal. A steady rotten-egg smell is not. Don’t touch light switches or light anything, leave the home, and call 911 or your gas company from outside. Once the gas company says it is safe, we can repair the range.

Codes vary by brand and model. For example, GE F2 and F3 and Whirlpool F3E0 and F3E1 usually point to the oven temperature sensor, Frigidaire F10 means the oven ran too hot, LG F9 points to the door lock, and Samsung SE usually means a shorted keypad. Tell us the code when you book so our technician brings the right parts.

Usually, yes, if it is under 10 to 15 years old and the repair costs less than half the price of a new one. Igniters, elements, sensors, door locks and switches are affordable repairs. Wall ovens and pro-style ranges are almost always worth repairing because replacement often means new cabinetry or installation.

Yes. We repair single and double wall ovens, freestanding and slide-in ranges, gas, electric, dual-fuel and induction ranges, convection and steam ovens, warming drawers and pro-style ranges from Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Monogram, Miele and other premium brands.

Check the breaker, and make sure the control lock or Sabbath mode is off. If the display is blank or nothing responds, the usual causes are a blown thermal fuse or a failed control board. A blown thermal fuse often follows a self-clean cycle.

Most oven and range repairs take one to two hours once the technician is on site. If a part needs to be ordered, we schedule a return visit as soon as it arrives.

Most ovens and ranges last about 13 to 15 years, and well-kept gas ranges often last longer. Wiping spills, limiting self-clean cycles and fixing small problems early help them last.

The cost depends on the problem and the part. We start with a diagnosis, then give you a clear repair estimate before any work begins. If you go ahead with the repair, the diagnostic fee is credited toward it. If you decide not to repair, you pay only the diagnostic fee.

Repairs carry a 90-day warranty for non-members and 6 months for ALAS members. The exact coverage is written on your invoice.
