Speed Queen Er OF: Too Much Water in the Tub

Er OF is the opposite of a slow fill. The washer has detected water at its overflow level, and if the fill doesn’t stop on its own, close the faucets before anything else.

What Er OF Means on a Speed Queen

Speed Queen’s guides say Er OF appears when the washer has filled to the overflow level. If the lid or door is closed and locked, the machine pumps the water out on its own. Front-load owners are told to clean the foreign object trap, since a blocked pump can leave water that reads as overfill. If the code stays, Speed Queen’s instruction is to unplug the washer and call for service. A washer that keeps filling while unplugged is a strong sign the inlet valve isn’t closing, so shut both faucets right away. Source: Speed Queen top-load user’s guide (opens in a new tab).

What to Do About Er OF

Protect the floor first, then follow Speed Queen’s steps.

1

Turn both faucets off

Close the hot and cold valves behind the washer so no more water can enter, whatever the valve inside is doing.

2

Let it pump out

With the lid or door closed and locked, Speed Queen says the washer drains itself. Give it a few minutes before opening anything.

3

Front-loaders: clean the trap

If you have a front-load model, clean the foreign object trap as the guide describes, then try one cycle with the faucets back on while you stay nearby.

If Er OF stays after the pump-out, or water keeps entering, unplug it and book service.→

When to Call a Technician

Schedule a repair if:

  • Water enters with the washer unplugged
  • Er OF returns after the pump-out
  • The tub fills past the normal level
  • Water reaches the floor

Speed Queen Er OF Questions

It can be. If water keeps entering after the washer is unplugged, the inlet valve isn’t closing. Turn both faucets off and leave them off until it is repaired. After-hours visits are available at an extra charge.

That is by design. Speed Queen’s guides say the washer pumps out when it reaches overflow level, as long as the lid or door is closed and locked.

You can try: faucets off, let it drain, clean the front-load trap if you have one. If the code persists, Speed Queen says to unplug the machine and call for service.

The usual suspects are the inlet valve and the level sensing. A technician confirms which one before ordering anything.
