(469) 638-3215Speed Queen’s digital top-loaders lock the lid partway into the cycle. Er LU means the control can’t release it. The TC5, which has no lid lock, doesn’t use this code.
Speed Queen says Er LU appears when the control senses the lid will not unlock. Its fix is to unplug the washer for three minutes and call for service if the code comes back. It helps to know how the lid lock behaves: Speed Queen calls it a delayed lid lock, because the lid stays unlocked during the first fill and agitation and locks automatically after that. Pausing releases it after 10 to 60 seconds depending on the point in the cycle, and the lock gives two clicks to fully release. The same guide lists separate codes for a lid that opens or unlocks while running, and for a lid that won’t lock at all. Source: Speed Queen top-load user’s guide (opens in a new tab).

After a pause or cycle end, give the washer up to a minute and listen for the second click before lifting the lid.
This is Speed Queen’s fix for Er LU. Plug it back in and see whether the lid releases.
Speed Queen warns against bypassing the lid switch or lid lock. Prying the lid can break the lock and the lid hinge.

We release the lid safely, test the lock assembly and its wiring, and price the repair in writing before doing it. As an independent company, ALAS has no role in Speed Queen or Alliance Laundry Systems factory service.

Speed Queen’s top-load guide lists Er Lo when the lid is sensed open during a running cycle and Er LL when it is sensed unlocked during a cycle; both clear by unplugging. A separate code means the lid hasn’t locked: close it fully and try again, and call for service if it continues. Check your guide for the exact display on your model.
No. Speed Queen lists No Lid Lock as a TC5 feature, so you can lift the lid and add an item after the cycle starts (TC5 product page (opens in a new tab)).
Speed Queen’s TR models use a delayed lid lock: the lid stays unlocked through the first fill and agitation steps, then locks automatically.
Speed Queen says 10 to 60 seconds, depending on where the washer is in the cycle.
