(469) 638-3215Er dr is Speed Queen’s drain code. On a top-loader the cause is usually in the hose or the standpipe; on a front-loader, check the foreign object trap behind the lower panel too.
Speed Queen says Er dr means water is still present in the washer at the end of the cycle. The owner checks are the drain hose and the drain receptacle it empties into, looking for a kink, a clog or an installation problem, then unplugging the washer for 15 seconds. Front-load models add one step: clean the foreign object trap in front of the drain pump, where socks, coins and hair ties collect. Speed Queen also notes that standpipes outside its factory specifications aren’t covered by warranty, so the drain setup matters. Source: Speed Queen front-load user’s guide (opens in a new tab).

Speed Queen’s list first, then the parts a technician checks.
Unplug the washer before reaching into any water.
Trace the hose from the back of the washer to the standpipe or sink. Free any kinks and make sure the end isn’t jammed against the bottom of the pipe.
Pour a bucket of water into the standpipe. If it backs up, the clog is in the house plumbing, not the washer.
Speed Queen’s guide shows how: unplug, remove the two screws at the bottom of the front access panel, set out towels or a wet/dry vac, unscrew the cap on the left of the pump and clean the trap. Then unplug for 15 seconds after reassembly.

We pump the washer down, test the drain pump and clear the pump inlet, and you see the price in writing before any part goes in. Our technicians are independent, with no link to Speed Queen’s or Alliance Laundry Systems’ service network.

Front-load models have a foreign object trap on the left side of the drain pump, behind the lower front access panel. Speed Queen’s top-load guide doesn’t describe an owner-serviced trap, so on a top-loader start with the hose and standpipe.
Speed Queen’s guides list plugged drain pipes, foreign objects in the washer or pump and standpipes beyond factory specifications as items that aren’t product failures, so the owner pays that service call.
Unplug the washer first. On a front-loader, Speed Queen’s trap-cleaning steps include catching residual water with a container, or a wet/dry shop vacuum if the drum is full.
Yes. Water left in the tub can stop the final spin from reaching full speed, which shows as a blinking decimal or Er ub; see our unbalanced load guide.
