Bosch Dishwasher Service, Code by Code

A Bosch dishwasher tells you a lot before anyone takes a panel off. When it stops draining, Bosch says the usual culprit is food debris in the filter or the drain pump, and its codes separate the two: E22 for a blocked filter, E24 when that blocked filter keeps the water from leaving, E25 for a jammed pump or a loose pump cover, and E23 when the pump itself is at fault. E15 means water has reached the base and the leak protection has stepped in; E16 and E17 point to the water supply; E09 and E12 involve the pump assembly Bosch calls the heat pump. Much of Dallas–Fort Worth has moderately hard tap water, so limescale, the problem behind E12, is worth keeping in mind too. Many of these start with steps from Bosch’s own pages: clean the filter, check the pump cover, look at the hose, then hold Reset or Start for about 4 seconds so the water pumps out. When the code comes back, your technician tests the pump, valves, heater and controls and writes up the price before any work starts.

Repair or replace

Is a Bosch Dishwasher Worth Repairing?

Often, and Bosch’s own warranty is part of the reason. Beyond the first year on the whole dishwasher, Bosch lists parts-only coverage on the electronics (microprocessor or circuit board) and on the racks in years 2 through 5, plus lifetime parts-only coverage for rust-through on the inner tub liner and stainless door. A failed control board in year four may be a parts claim with Bosch, leaving only the labor. Drain pumps, pump covers, inlet valves and latches are single-part repairs at any age.

Usually worth repairing

  • Only a pump, valve, latch or filter has failed
  • It is inside Bosch’s 2–5 year electronics or rack coverage
  • It is panel-ready or built into custom cabinetry
  • The tub and door are free of rust-through

Worth weighing carefully

  • It needs a heat pump and control board together
  • Water has damaged the base and the floor beneath
  • It has needed several unrelated repairs
  • The estimate is close to a replacement’s price

Leak

Bosch Dishwasher Leaking or Showing E15?

Bosch’s instruction for E15 is to turn off the water inflow. Close the supply valve under the sink, switch the dishwasher off at its breaker and check the cabinet floor, then schedule a technician. Visits outside regular hours cost extra.

  1. Tell us the code

Book with the code on the display and, if you can, a photo of the E-Nr rating plate.

  2. Drain path, then the rest

We work from the filter and pump cover through the pump and hose before testing fill, heat and controls.

  3. Written estimate

You see the price in writing first, and we point out any part that may fall under Bosch’s 5-year electronics or rack coverage.

  4. Test run

After the repair we run a cycle from fill through drain, check under the toe kick for water, and note our warranty on the invoice.

Bosch Dishwasher Questions

Bosch says food debris clogging the filter or the drain pump is the most common reason. Take the filter out and wash it, remove the pump cover beneath it and sponge out the water and debris, then refit both (Bosch not-draining guide (opens in a new tab)).

Bosch’s reset does it: press Reset (labeled 4 Sec. on some models) or Start for about 4 seconds. The leftover water pumps out in about a minute; then open the door and press On/Off, as Bosch’s reset guide describes.

Bosch uses E22 for a blocked filter, E24 for not draining because the drain filter is blocked, E25 for a blocked drain pump or a loose or missing pump cover, and E23 for a pump that is blocked, clogged or faulty. Start with the E24 guide.

Bosch recommends every few months. Turn the filter knob to the left, lift it out, and wash each piece in warm soapy water, following Bosch’s filter cleaning guide.

On its dishwasher code page Bosch says three beeps usually point to a leak with water pooling at the base, and five beeps commonly mean water at the base has triggered the sensor. Both are worth treating like E15.

Bosch says a steady red light projected on the floor shows the dishwasher is running, and a blinking light means it has run into an issue. Check the display or the code list for the cause.

Start with the rinse aid indicator; Bosch says it lights when the dispenser needs a refill. If rinse aid is full and dishes stay wet or cold, the heater or, on CrystalDry models, the drying system may need service.

Bosch’s US warranty page lists 1 year of limited coverage, parts and labor, on the entire dishwasher, followed by parts-only coverage in years 2 to 5 on the electronics and racks and lifetime parts-only rust-through coverage on the inner tub liner and stainless door (Bosch warranty information (opens in a new tab)). While that first year runs, Bosch support is the place to start. ALAS is independent, with no tie to Bosch or BSH; we take over once that coverage has lapsed, or any time you would rather have a local technician come out.

Yes. We work on panel-ready models built into custom cabinetry and on Bosch’s narrow 17 3/4-inch models, as well as standard 24-inch dishwashers across every series.

Bosch says limescale can build up quickly in hard water areas and ties code E12 to scale in the heat pump. On models with a water softener, Bosch advises keeping softening salt in the reservoir; see our E12 guide.

Unload the racks, clear the space under the sink, and note the code on the display or take a photo of it.
