Bosch Dishwasher E24: Water Left in the Tub

E24 is Bosch’s drain-filter code, and it tends to arrive with dirty water sitting under the bottom rack. Most of Bosch’s fixes need nothing more than a towel and a few minutes.

Bosch’s Definition of E24

Bosch says E24 means the dishwasher is not draining properly because the drain filter is blocked. Its article names three likely sources: a blocked drain hose, a filter that needs cleaning, and a garbage disposal installed recently whose installer never knocked out the plug in the dishwasher inlet. Bosch then asks owners to check that the hose behind the dishwasher isn’t kinked or damaged, that the siphon connection is sealed, and that the pump cover under the filter is seated tightly. Once the cause is cleared, reset the dishwasher as the owner’s manual describes. Source: Bosch E24 article (opens in a new tab).

Bosch’s Steps for Clearing E24

Switch the dishwasher off and keep a towel handy for the water under the filter.

1

Filter and pump cover

Lift the filter out from the tub floor and rinse it. Underneath sits the pump cover; Bosch says make sure it isn’t loose.

2

Hose and siphon

Pull the toe kick and look along the hose for kinks or damage, then confirm the siphon connection under the sink is sealed.

3

Disposal plug, then reset

On a new disposal, remove the knockout plug from its dishwasher port. Then hold Reset or Start for about 4 seconds so the leftover water pumps out.

If E24 shows again after a clean filter and a clear hose, the drain pump itself needs to be tested.→

Bosch E24 FAQs

Bosch defines E24 as the dishwasher not draining properly because the drain filter is blocked.

Fix the cause first. Bosch’s reset is to press Reset (marked 4 Sec. on some panels) or Start for about 4 seconds; the dishwasher pumps out its water in about a minute. Then open the door and press On/Off (Bosch reset guide (opens in a new tab)).

Yes. Bosch lists it specifically: the installer may have left the knockout plug in the disposal’s dishwasher connection, so water has nowhere to go.

Bosch ties E24 to a blocked drain filter and E25 to a blocked drain pump or a loose or missing pump cover. See our E25 guide.
