(469) 638-3215Unlike E22 or E24, Bosch gives owners no checklist for E23. The code points straight at the drain pump, and the pump may simply be jammed or may have failed.
Bosch’s article says an E23 error code indicates there is an issue with the drain pump, and that this happens when the drain pump is blocked, clogged or faulty. It lists no owner steps and directs owners to Bosch Customer Support. Because a blockage and a failed pump show the same code, the first thing worth ruling out is debris. Bosch’s E25 article shows how to remove the filter and pump cover to look into the pump; if the opening is clear and E23 remains, the pump needs electrical testing. Power off at the breaker before you touch anything inside the tub.
Lift out the filter and rinse it so you can see the pump cover underneath.
Using the pump-cover method from Bosch’s E25 article, remove the cover and pick out anything lodged in the pump.
Refit the cover and filter, switch the breaker on and run a drain. If E23 returns, stop and book service.

Bosch says there is an issue with the drain pump: it is blocked, clogged or faulty.
You can check for a blockage at the pump cover. Bosch offers no further owner steps, so a pump that is clear but still faulting needs a technician.
Bosch ties E25 to a blocked pump or a loose or missing pump cover, and E23 to a pump that is blocked, clogged or faulty. See the E25 guide.
Often, yes. It is a single part, and on a dishwasher with a sound tub and working controls it usually makes sense to repair.
