Streets That Start With W
Most of the original streets begin with the letter W, among them Wedgmont, Wrigley and Winifred. The curving layout reportedly confused emergency services, and the naming practice was later dropped. Few streets in the neighborhood have sidewalks.
Parks and Schools
Wedgwood Park (opens in a new tab) on Winifred Drive covers 6.6 acres and was dedicated in 1955 on land offered by the Wedgwood Land Company the year before. It adjoins Bruce Shulkey Elementary, completed in 1958, and buffalograss from the Fort Worth Prairie still grows there.
Candleridge Park and Le Blanc Park offer tennis, soccer and basketball. Students attend Fort Worth ISD schools including Westcreek Elementary, Wedgwood Middle and Southwest High.
Mid-Century History
Every Wedgwood home was reportedly built with central air, which was still fairly new for mid-priced houses in the mid-1950s. Most public buildings were mid-century modern designs by the local firm Kneer & Hamm.
The Wedgwood Historical Association, formed in March 2021, is working with UTA on a National Register nomination. Wedgwood Shopping Village remains, while the old country club and Wedgwood Bowl are gone.
