Compact Bosch Washers Have Their Own Codes
Bosch compact washers explain most stoppages on the display, and a good share of them are owner fixes. E18 or F18 means the drainage hose is blocked or kinked, and Bosch walks you through clearing the hose and cleaning the pump behind the service flap. E17, F17 or F29 points to blocked inlet filters or AquaStop hose, or water pressure too low; Bosch says the tap should deliver about 10 liters (roughly 2.6 gallons) a minute. E32 or F32 is an unbalanced load, E33 or F33 too much foam, and E16 or F16 a door that isn’t locked. E80, a drive circuit fault, is different: Bosch says only an authorized technician can clear it and directs owners to Bosch support; out of warranty, our technician can test the circuit. When any code survives the owner checks, a technician from our Dallas–Fort Worth team tests the pump, inlet valves, door lock, motor and control and puts the price in writing before the repair.
A photo of the display and the E-Nr from the rating plate lets us bring the right pump, valve or lock. Tell us if the washer is stacked, so we plan for access.

Bosch Washer Problems and Their Causes
Codes and symptoms, from Bosch’s US code list.
| Symptom | Common causes a technician checks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Water left in the drum, E18 or F18 | A kinked or blocked drainage hose, debris in the siphon, or a blocked pump. | Bosch E18 guide |
| Won’t fill, E17, F17 or F29 | Clogged inlet filters, a blocked AquaStop hose or low water pressure at the tap. | Washer repair |
| Door not locking, E16 or F16 | Laundry caught in the door, a door not pushed shut until it clicks, or a failed door lock. | Washer repair |
| Won’t spin, E32, F32 or H:32 | An unbalanced load, often one heavy item, or bedding with open zippers and buttons. | Washer repair |
| Foam code, E33 or F33 | Too much detergent; Bosch says to use less next time. | Washer repair |
| Drain problem, E:30 / -80 | A blocked drain pipe or outlet hose, or the hose connected higher than 1 meter (39 inches). | Bosch E18 guide |
| E80 on the display | A drive circuit fault. Bosch says only an authorized technician can clear it and points owners to its support line. | Washer repair |
| Loud spin or a leak at the front | Worn drum bearings, an object caught between drum and tub, a torn door boot or a loose pump cover. | Washer repair |

Repair or replace
Is a Bosch Compact Washer Worth Fixing?
A 24-inch washer often lives where a full-size machine won’t fit, stacked in a closet or set under a counter, so a replacement has to match the space and usually the dryer above or beside it. That favors repair when the fault is a pump, valve, door lock or sensor. Bosch’s warranty on compact washers is 1 year on the entire appliance, parts and labor.
Usually worth repairing
- The fault is a pump, valve, lock or sensor
- It is stacked with a matching Bosch dryer
- The drum and tub are sound
- It fits a space a full-size washer can’t
Worth weighing carefully
- Bearings and the control have both failed
- The tub is cracked or leaking
- It is older and has had repeated repairs
- The estimate approaches a new compact pair

Leak
Bosch Washer Leaking?
Turn the program to OFF, unplug the washer and close the water tap. If the drum is full after a hot cycle, let it cool before draining; Bosch warns the water may be very hot. Then schedule a visit; off-hours appointments cost extra.

Bosch Washer Questions
Bosch ties E18 or F18 to a blocked or kinked drainage hose, and its E18 article also covers a blocked pump. Clean the hose and siphon, then the pump behind the service flap; see our E18 guide.
Bosch groups E17, F17 and F29: the filters in the water connection or AquaStop hose are blocked, or the water pressure is too low. Clean the filters and confirm the tap gives about 10 liters per minute (Bosch error codes (opens in a new tab)).
E32, F32 or H:32 means the load is unbalanced. Bosch suggests mixing large and small items and closing zippers and buttons on bedding.
Bosch says it means too much detergent. Use less next time; E33 or F33 points to detergent foam as well.
Bosch’s E:30 / -80 guidance says to keep the drain hose at or below 1 meter, about 39 inches, and to avoid kinks and unsuitable extensions.
Yes. We service Bosch compact washers stacked with a Bosch dryer, side by side or under a counter.
Bosch’s US warranty page lists 1 year of limited coverage, parts and labor, on the entire compact washer (Bosch warranty information (opens in a new tab)). While that first year runs, Bosch support is the place to start. ALAS is independent, with no tie to Bosch or BSH; we take over once that coverage has lapsed, or any time you would rather have a local technician come out.
Homes, condos and apartments across Dallas–Fort Worth, including Plano, Frisco, Dallas, Irving, Richardson, Addison and Fort Worth.
Front-load washers hold a little moisture in the door boot and drum after each wash. Leave the door slightly open between loads, wipe the boot dry and run a hot cleaning cycle now and then. A smell that persists can point to a slow drain, which is worth checking.
