Oak Point is not a single subdivision. Locally the name refers to two things: Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, which at 800 acres is the largest park in Plano, and the planning area around it that the City calls Envision Oak Point. That plan covers about 730 acres between US 75 and the park, taking in the Plano Event Center and Collin College’s Spring Creek Campus.
The southern part of the area has traditional single-family neighborhoods. The area has also included working farmland, among it a family-owned dairy farm, and the approved plan adds apartments and smaller-lot homes over time. Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve
The park runs from Parker Road north to Chaparral Road and from Spring Creek Parkway east to Los Rios Boulevard, with trails along Rowlett Creek. It has a lake for kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding, the Red Tail Pavilion amphitheater, a Nature Retreat Center, a 25-acre Blackland Prairie restoration and an equestrian area.
Every September the park hosts the Plano Balloon Festival.
A Plan for Northeast Plano
The City Council approved the Envision Oak Point plan by a 6–2 vote in July 2018, when about 200 acres of the planning area were still undeveloped. In 2018 NBC 5 called it one of the last corners of Plano where cattle graze, with Jupiter Road running through it.
Governor Greg Abbott also designated the Oak Point area an opportunity zone.
