Maytag sells its washers on toughness, and in North Texas we still see plenty of Bravos and Bravos XL top-loaders working alongside newer Pet Pro and commercial-grade models. When one of them stops, the display usually gives a head start. Maytag’s top-load codes are short and readable: LF means a slow fill, Sud means too much foam, LdL means the lid won’t lock and OL means the load is too big. A blinking lid lock light is the single complaint we hear most from Maytag top-load owners, and Maytag’s own checks clear many of those without a part. When they don’t, your technician tests the lock, drain pump, inlet valve, drive motor and control to find the one that failed, writes down the price and waits for your yes before doing the work.

Fix It or Replace It? A Maytag-Specific View
Maytag backs the drive motor and wash basket on washers made after 2017 with a 10-year limited parts warranty, so on a newer machine the two most expensive parts may be covered even after year one, leaving labor. Lid locks, pumps and valves, the parts that fail most often, are single-part jobs on any age of Maytag. The math changes on an older Bravos with a worn bearing plus a failed control.

Maytag says the lid hasn’t locked. Check for clothing under the lid, wipe buildup off the lock and striker, set the knob on a cycle and hold Start for up to 3 seconds. If it still blinks, the lock assembly needs testing; see our lid lock guide.
A top-loader won’t spin until the lid locks and the water drains, so a lid lock fault or a slow drain often looks like a spin problem. An oversized load (OL) can also stop it. If the lid locks and the tub empties but it still won’t spin, the drive system needs a technician.
Check the drain hose for kinks and make sure the standpipe isn’t clogged. Maytag notes drn can be an installation problem. If the hose and drain are clear and the pump hums or stays silent, the pump needs repair.
Yes. Many Bravos and Bravos XL top-loaders are still running in DFW homes, and Maytag still keeps owner pages for them. Lid locks, pumps, valves and shifters are common repairs on these models.
