(469) 638-3215A flashing lid lock light or LdL is one of the most common Maytag top-load complaints, on Bravos XL models and newer washers alike. Most causes are easy to check.
Maytag says LdL means the lid won’t lock. On washers without a code display, the lid lock light flashes instead. Maytag’s reasons: the lock hasn’t moved into the locked position, the lock motor can’t be powered, or something keeps the lid from closing completely, often an item in the load. Some models lock immediately and others only after the wash starts. A related code, LdU, means the lid won’t unlock because something is sitting on top of the washer, such as a laundry basket. Codes vary by model. Source: Maytag lid lock flashing (opens in a new tab).

Maytag names these causes. The last one needs a technician.
Try these before booking. Don’t pry the lid or tape the switch.
Maytag says some models need Start pressed and held for up to 3 seconds. Make sure the knob points at a cycle; the washer won’t start between selections.
The striker is the tab on the lid that fits into the lock. Check that nothing blocks it and that no clothing is caught under the lid.
Wipe detergent and lint buildup from the lock and striker with a soft damp cloth and mild soap only, then close the lid and try again.

Lid lock assemblies are a common Maytag top-load repair. We test the lock, wiring and control and quote it first.

Maytag says the lid hasn’t locked: the lock didn’t move into position, the lock motor isn’t getting power, or the lid isn’t fully closed. Check for clothing under the lid and clean the striker.
LdL means the lid won’t lock. LdU means it won’t unlock, and Maytag says that usually happens when something such as a laundry basket is sitting on the lid.
No. The lock keeps the lid shut while the basket spins at high speed. Bypassing it is unsafe and can damage the washer.
Usually. A lid lock is a single assembly, and replacing it is one of the more affordable top-load repairs, including on older Bravos XL washers.
