(469) 638-3215F2 E1 sounds like a control fault, and it can be. But KitchenAid’s own article puts a simple check first: grates that aren’t seated right. Here is the order to work through it.
KitchenAid says F2 E1 on a range may come from the user interface or keypad, the control, or the wiring between them. It also lists grates installed incorrectly, possibly backwards, as a cause. KitchenAid’s steps: with the range cool, make sure each grate sits level, rock it corner to corner and side to side, and swap grates if one wobbles; cycle power; then do a one-minute breaker reset and watch for a minute. If the code returns, schedule service. Codes vary by model. Source: KitchenAid range F2 E1 (opens in a new tab).

KitchenAid’s list. The first one is the easy check.
Let the cooktop cool fully before touching the grates.
Check each grate sits flat and level. Rock it corner to corner and side to side. If it wobbles, KitchenAid says it may be backwards; try swapping it with another.
Turn the range off at the breaker for one minute, then back on, to clear the code.
Watch the display for one minute, then try a bake and a burner to confirm the range works normally.

We test the keypad, control and harness on KitchenAid ranges and quote the part in writing before we replace it.

KitchenAid lists grates installed incorrectly or backwards as a cause of F2 E1 on ranges. Seating them correctly and cycling power is its first step.
Not necessarily. KitchenAid names the keypad, control and wiring as possibilities. A technician tests each before recommending a part.
If the controls don’t respond reliably, don’t. A stuck key can start or change a function you didn’t choose. Reset at the breaker and book if it returns.
KitchenAid has a separate F2 E1 article for wall ovens. Our page follows the range article; check your manual for your exact model.
