(469) 638-3215When Check Vent lights up, your Maytag dryer is telling you air can’t get out fast enough. That slows drying and builds heat, so it is worth fixing soon.
Maytag says the Check Vent light means the dryer’s airflow is restricted. Some displays show AF with it. The block can be behind the dryer, inside the walls or at the outside hood. Maytag says vent runs to the outside should be cleaned every one to two years, or sooner when drying slows. It also says cleaning the house venting is not covered by warranty and is not done by an appliance service technician; that job belongs to a vent cleaning service. ALAS does both: dryer repair and dryer vent cleaning. Source: Maytag Check Vent light (opens in a new tab).

These usually travel with the Check Vent light.
Maytag lists these causes of restricted airflow.
Unplug the dryer before moving it. Gas dryers: don’t strain the gas line.
Look for a crushed or kinked vent. Maytag says to leave at least 4 inches between the dryer and the wall when you push it back.
With the dryer running, the hood flap should open and air should flow strongly. Clear plants, nests or lint blocking it.
Maytag calls for 4-inch rigid or flexible metal vent, never plastic or foil, with the shortest run and fewest 90-degree elbows possible.

Maytag says it means the dryer’s airflow is restricted. Check behind the dryer, the vent material and the outside hood.
Maytag says vents running outside should be cleaned every one to two years, or whenever drying performance drops.
Lint is flammable, and restricted airflow makes a dryer run hotter. The U.S. Fire Administration warns that skipping lint filter and vent cleaning raises the risk of a dryer fire; see its dryer fire safety flyer (opens in a new tab).
No. Maytag says house vent cleaning isn’t covered by warranty and isn’t done by an appliance service technician. ALAS offers dryer vent cleaning separately; book it here.
