Maytag Oven F2 Error: Temperature Sensing Problem

An F2 on your Maytag oven means the control isn’t getting a reading it trusts from the temperature sensor circuit. Here is the one reset Maytag recommends.

What F2 Means on a Maytag Oven

Maytag says F2 means there may be a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the control or the associated wiring. Without a good temperature reading, the oven can’t regulate its heat, so it may not heat at all or may run hotter than set. Maytag files this code under its wall ovens; many ranges use similar codes, so confirm in your manual. Source: Maytag F2 wall oven code (opens in a new tab).

Maytag’s Reset for F2

This is the only owner step Maytag gives. Don’t open panels.

1

Breaker off for 1 minute

Switch off the oven’s breaker or breakers and leave them off for one full minute.

2

Restore power and watch

Turn the breakers back on and watch the display for a minute to see whether F2 comes back.

3

Test with a short bake

If the display stays clear, run a short bake and make sure the oven heats normally. If it heats abnormally, switch it off.

If F2 returns, stop using the oven and book a diagnosis.→

When to Call a Technician

Schedule a repair if:

  • F2 returns after the breaker reset
  • The oven runs much hotter than set

Maytag F2 Questions

Maytag says F2 may mean a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the control or the wiring between them.

Not if the code returns after a reset. Without a reliable temperature reading the oven may not regulate heat, so keep it off until it is checked.

The sensor is a common cause, but Maytag also lists the control and wiring. A technician measures the sensor first so you don’t pay for a control board you don’t need.

Maytag’s 10-year limited parts coverage on cooking appliances lists elements, burners, the ceramic top and grates, and the cavity, not sensors or controls. In the first year, Maytag covers all parts and labor.
