Maytag Range, Wall Oven and Cooktop Repair
Cooking problems on a Maytag usually fall into three groups: no heat, wrong heat and controls that misbehave. No heat on an electric range points to a bake or broil element, a relay or a sensor; on a gas range it is often the igniter that has weakened too much to open the gas valve. Wrong heat, where food burns or underbakes, usually comes down to the oven temperature sensor, and Maytag’s F2 code points to exactly that circuit. Controls that beep, freeze or ignore your presses fit F2 E0, Maytag’s keypad and user interface code. Maytag also backs its burners, elements, ceramic top, grates and oven cavity with a 10-year limited parts warranty on cooking appliances made after 2017, so a cracked glass top or a failed element on a newer range may be a covered part.
On a Maytag range, the model tag is usually in the burner box under the cooktop, or underneath the range; on a wall oven it sits on the lower left of the frame with the door open. A photo, plus gas or electric, tells us whether to bring an igniter, an element or a sensor.

Maytag Oven and Cooktop Problems We Repair
Gas and electric models fail in different ways. Here is where each problem usually starts.
| Symptom | Common causes a technician checks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Oven won’t heat (electric) | A burned-out bake element, a broil element, a failed relay on the control, or a sensor reading wrong. | Oven repair |
| Oven won’t heat (gas) | A weak igniter that glows but never opens the gas valve, a failed valve, or a control fault. | Oven repair |
| F2 on the display | Maytag points to the oven temperature sensor, the control or the wiring between them. | Maytag F2 guide |
| F2 E0 or keys not responding | A faulty keypad or user interface, a loose ribbon connection or a control fault. | Maytag F2 E0 guide |
| Burner clicks but won’t light | Wet or dirty burner caps, a misaligned cap, a cracked igniter or a spark module fault. | Oven repair |
| Food burns or underbakes | An oven sensor drifting, a failing element, or a door gasket letting heat escape. | Maytag F2 guide |
| Glass cooktop element dead | A failed radiant element, a burned infinite switch or a control fault. A cracked top needs replacement. | Oven repair |
| Door locked after self-clean | The oven still cooling, a door lock motor or switch fault, or a control that didn’t release the lock. | Oven repair |

Repairing a Maytag Range: Is It Worth It?
Ranges have a long working life, and most failures are a single element, igniter, sensor or switch. On Maytag cooking appliances made after 2017, Maytag’s 10-year limited parts warranty also covers burners and elements, the ceramic top and grates, and the oven cavity. Replacement makes more sense when the control and several heating parts fail together on an older unit, or the oven cavity is rusted through.
Usually worth repairing
- The fault is an element, igniter, sensor or switch
- It was made after 2017 and a covered part failed
- It is a wall oven or built-in that is costly to replace
- The cooktop and cabinet are in good condition
Worth weighing carefully
- The control and several heating parts failed
- The cavity is rusted or the enamel is badly damaged
- Parts for an older model are no longer available
- The quote is more than half the price of a new range

Smell Gas Near Your Maytag Range?
Don’t switch anything on or off. Leave the house, then call the gas utility or 911 from outside. For an oven that overheats or won’t shut off, switch it off at the breaker. After-hours visits are available at an extra charge.
How it works
How a Maytag Oven Visit Works
Tell us the setup
Range, wall oven or cooktop; gas or electric; and any code on the panel. A model tag photo helps.
We test, not guess
The technician measures elements, igniter current and sensor resistance and checks the control before naming the part.
Price in writing
You get the diagnosis and price before work. If the part is one Maytag covers for 10 years, we tell you.
Heat checked
After the repair we run bake and the affected burners or elements and confirm the temperature climbs as it should.

Maytag Oven and Range Questions We Get Asked
On electric models, look at the bake element for breaks or blisters; if it looks fine, a relay or sensor may be at fault. On gas models, the igniter is the usual suspect: it can glow but still be too weak to open the gas valve. Both need a technician to test.
Maytag says there may be a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the control or the wiring. Switch the breaker off for a minute and back on; if F2 returns, see our F2 guide.
Maytag ties F2 E0 to the user interface or keypad, the control or the wiring. It can also read E0 F2. See our F2 E0 guide.
If it clicks, dry the burner cap and base after spills and make sure the cap sits flat. If it doesn’t click at all, or clicks without lighting once dry, the igniter or spark module needs checking.
Maytag lists the ceramic top among its 10-year limited parts on cooking appliances made after 2017. Contact Maytag about the part; labor is billed after the first year.
Maytag’s reset for its oven codes is to switch the breaker off for one minute, back on, and watch for a minute to see whether the code returns.
Yes. We repair Maytag gas and electric ranges, wall ovens and cooktops, including oven igniters, gas valves, surface burners and spark igniters.
Usually. Ranges last a long time, and most repairs are a single heating part or sensor. A failed control plus several heating parts on an older unit is the main exception.
Start with Maytag if your range is in its first year, because Maytag covers all parts and labor that year. After that, Maytag’s 10-year coverage is limited to certain parts (on a range: burners and elements, the ceramic top and grates, and the cavity) on products made after 2017, and labor is no longer included (Maytag 10-year limited parts warranty (opens in a new tab)). ALAS is an independent company, not a Maytag service provider. We handle out-of-warranty repairs and repairs owners choose to have done locally, and if a covered Maytag part is the problem, we will tell you so you can claim it.
Let the oven cool, clear the cooktop and the drawer, and note any code on the display.
