(469) 638-3215L2 on a Maytag electric dryer usually means the drum turns but the heat never comes on. The cause is often power to the dryer rather than the dryer itself.
Maytag calls L2 low or no line voltage: there may be a problem with your home’s power supply. The dryer keeps running with the code showing, but the heater won’t turn on. Electric Maytag dryers need 240 volts, supplied through two breakers, one for the motor side and one for the heating element; if one trips, the drum can turn without heat. Maytag says that if the home doesn’t supply 240 volts, check with a qualified electrician. Codes vary by model. Source: Maytag L2 error code (opens in a new tab).

Maytag points to the power supply first.
Only reset breakers yourself. Cord and outlet work is for a technician or electrician.
Find the dryer’s double breaker in the panel and make sure neither side has tripped. Reset it fully off, then on.
Maytag says to switch the breaker or breakers off for 5 minutes, back on, start a timed dry and watch 5 minutes for the code.
Maytag also lists checking the power cord terminals. That is electrical work at 240 volts, so let a technician or a qualified electrician do it.

Maytag says L2 means low or no line voltage, pointing to a possible home power supply problem. The dryer runs but the heater stays off.
Electric dryers use two breakers. If the heating side trips, the motor can still turn the drum. Reset both, and if L2 returns, have the power checked.
L2 relates to the 240-volt supply that electric dryers use. A gas dryer that won’t heat has different causes; see our Maytag dryer repair page.
If the outlet isn’t supplying 240 volts, yes; Maytag says to check with a qualified electrician. If the outlet is fine, a dryer technician checks the cord, terminal block and heating circuit.
