Frigidaire Front-Load Washer F2: Suds Overflow

Foam pushing out of the door or dispenser with F2 on the display is almost always a detergent issue. Frigidaire’s fix takes one empty cycle.

F2 on a Frigidaire Front-Loader

Frigidaire says F2 means there is too much soap, or the wrong type of soap, and that suds often leak or overflow when it happens. Front-loaders tumble clothes through a small amount of water, so regular detergent, or too much HE detergent, quickly builds more foam than the rinse can clear. Frigidaire’s remedy: use detergent labeled high efficiency, use less of it, and run an empty Quick Wash to clean the machine. Source: Frigidaire F2 too many suds (opens in a new tab).

Frigidaire’s Fix for F2

Takes about one Quick Wash cycle.

1

Switch to HE detergent

Frigidaire says to use a detergent labeled high efficiency. Look for the HE mark on the bottle or box.

2

Use less

Measure below the line you normally fill to. Concentrated detergents need very little in a front-loader.

3

Run an empty Quick Wash

With no laundry and no detergent, run Quick Wash to rinse leftover suds out of the drum and hoses.

If F2 or leaking continues after switching detergent, book a diagnosis.→

When to Call a Technician

Schedule a repair if:

  • F2 with the right HE dose
  • Water leaks with no suds visible
  • Water stays in the drum
  • The door boot is torn or leaking

Frigidaire F2 FAQs

Frigidaire says F2 means too much soap or the wrong type of soap, often with suds leaking or overflowing.

No. On Frigidaire top-loaders, E2 is a slow drain. F2 is the front-load suds code. See our E2 guide.

They can if the pod is too much for a small load. Use pods only for full loads, or switch to measured liquid HE detergent.

Repeated over-sudsing can leave residue, odors and leaks around the door seal. Fixing the dose early avoids that.
