Nothing is repaired until you approve it

(469) 638-3215i40 is a cleaning job far more often than a repair. Frigidaire’s answer is the glass trap and filter at the bottom of the tub.
Frigidaire says error code i40 indicates a clogged filter or sump: food soil has collected where the water is filtered and pumped. Its advice is to clean out the glass trap and run the dishwasher again, using its glass trap and filter guide for the details. Because a blocked sump also slows draining, i40 and the drain code i20 often travel together. Source: Frigidaire i40 (opens in a new tab).

Frigidaire says it indicates a clogged filter or sump.
Check it whenever dishes come out gritty or water is slow to drain, and more often if you load dishes without scraping.
Scrape off large scraps, bones and labels. Those are what end up clogging the filter and sump.
Debris that gets past a damaged filter can jam or wear the pump, which is why a cracked filter is worth replacing.
