Frigidaire Dishwasher Repair, Starting at the Drain
Frigidaire dishwashers report most drain trouble with two codes: i20, when the unit did not drain completely, and i40, when the filter or sump is clogged with food soil. Frigidaire’s own checks cover a lot of ground before a repair is needed. The glass trap and filter at the bottom of the tub should be clean; the drain hose should not be pinched and must loop at least 32 inches above the floor; and on a new installation connected to a garbage disposer, the disposer knockout plug has to be removed. A reset by holding Cancel, switching off the breaker, or unplugging for 3 minutes clears a one-time glitch. When water still stands, your technician tests the drain pump, check valve, wash motor, heating element and controls and gives you the price before any work.
Frigidaire puts the model label along the inside edge of the door or on the right side of the tub. Snap a photo of it and of any code, such as i20 or i40, when you book so we bring the right pump or filter parts.

Repair or replace
Repairing a Frigidaire Dishwasher: When It Pays
Frigidaire backs its dishwashers longer than most people realize: a lifetime warranty on the stainless tub and door liner, and coverage on the racks and electronic control module in years 2 through 5, on top of the 1-year standard warranty. So a failed control in year three may be worth a Frigidaire warranty claim before you pay for the part. Drain pumps, latches and inlet valves are single-part jobs at any age.
Usually worth repairing
- The fault is a pump, latch, valve or element
- It is within Frigidaire’s 2–5 year rack and control coverage
- It fits a custom panel or tight opening
- There is no rust on the tub floor or door
Worth weighing carefully
- It needs a wash motor and control together
- The tub floor or door is rusted through
- It is old and has needed repeated repairs
- The quote tops half the price of a new one
If you decide to replace it, check efficiency ratings at ENERGY STAR certified dishwashers

Leak
Frigidaire Dishwasher Leaking?
A slow drip under a dishwasher can rot the subfloor before anyone notices. Shut off the hot water supply under the sink and turn the dishwasher off at its breaker, then book a visit. After-hours visits carry an extra charge.
How it works
How a Frigidaire Dishwasher Visit Works
Book with the code
Tell us the code on the display and send a photo of the label on the door edge or tub side.
Drain path first
We check the trap, filter, sump, hose routing and pump before moving on to wash, heat and control parts.
Price and warranty check
You get the price in writing, and we tell you if the part falls under Frigidaire’s longer tub, rack or control coverage.
Full cycle run
We finish by running a short cycle from fill to drain, watching the toe kick for drips, and writing our warranty on the invoice.

Frigidaire Dishwasher Questions
Frigidaire’s i20 checks: clean the glass trap and filter, make sure the drain hose isn’t pinched and loops at least 32 inches above the floor, and on a new install remove the disposer knockout plug. See our i20 guide.
Frigidaire lists holding the Cancel button, switching off the breaker, or unplugging the dishwasher for 3 minutes.
Frigidaire says i40 indicates a clogged filter or sump. Clean the glass trap and run it again; see our i40 guide.
At the bottom of the tub, under the lower rack. Frigidaire calls it the glass trap and filter; your Use & Care guide shows how it comes out on your model.
A little moisture is normal, but standing water means the drain isn’t finishing. Reset it as Frigidaire describes, clean the glass trap and check the hose; if water still stands, the pump or drain path needs a technician.
For some parts, yes. Frigidaire lists a lifetime warranty on the stainless tub and door liner and coverage on the racks and electronic control module in years 2 through 5 (Frigidaire warranty (opens in a new tab)).
Yes, along with standard Frigidaire and Frigidaire Professional dishwashers.
Frigidaire lists 1 year of limited warranty coverage on dishwashers, plus lifetime coverage on the stainless tub and door liner and years 2–5 on the racks and electronic control module (Frigidaire warranty information (opens in a new tab)). If yours is still inside that window, book through Frigidaire first. ALAS is an independent repair company with no Frigidaire affiliation; we repair Frigidaire, Gallery and Professional dishwashers once the warranty has ended, or whenever you would rather use a local technician.
Empty the racks, give us room under the sink, and jot down whatever code the panel shows.
