Nothing is repaired until you approve it

(469) 638-3215North Texas storms knock out power often enough that many Maytag owners meet PO sooner or later. Clearing it takes a button press; deciding about the food takes more care.
Maytag says PO, with an alert tone that sounds three times, means the power supply to the refrigerator was off and the freezer warmed to 18°F (-8°C) or higher. To clear it, wait for Confirm to blink, then press Measured Fill under Confirm, and the display returns to the home screen. Maytag files this under its French door bottom-freezer models. The code is a warning about temperature, not a repair code, unless it appears when the power never went out. Source: Maytag PO error code (opens in a new tab).

Typical situations.
Maytag ties PO to lost power. These are the usual sources.
Clear the alert, then check the food and the temperatures.
When Confirm blinks, press Measured Fill under it. Maytag says the PO clears and the display returns to the home screen.
Follow FoodSafety.gov: throw out perishable refrigerated food that sat above 40°F for 4 hours or more, and check freezer items for ice crystals.
Keep the doors closed and check that the fridge and freezer return to their set temperatures over the next several hours.

A refrigerator that loses power on its own needs testing. We check the outlet, cord and controls, price first.

Maytag says it means the power was off long enough for the freezer to warm to 18°F or higher. Press Measured Fill under the blinking Confirm to clear it.
PO tells you the freezer got warm, so check carefully. FoodSafety.gov says to throw out perishable refrigerated food above 40°F for 4 hours or more; see its power outage guidance (opens in a new tab).
Something is cutting power to the refrigerator: a GFCI outlet, a loose plug, a weak outlet or a fault inside the unit. That needs testing.
Keeping the doors closed matters more. A full freezer holds temperature longer than a half-full one, so avoid opening it until power returns.
