LG Washer Repair for Front-Load, Top-Load and WashTower Models
ALAS repairs LG washing machines in homes across Dallas–Fort Worth, from front-load and top-load washers to WashTower stacked units, SideKick pedestal washers and models with TurboWash. LG washers use a direct-drive motor connected to the tub without a belt or pulley, so when the drum won’t turn there is no belt to replace: your technician tests the motor, its sensor and wiring, and the control board instead. Front-load and top-load models also fail in different places. Front-loads collect lint and debris at the drain pump filter and door gasket, while top-loads add a lid lock and rebalance on their own when a load shifts. The code on the display, such as OE, UE, LE, dE or IE, shows where to start. You get the diagnosis and a written price first, and nothing is repaired until you approve it.
Before you book, write down any code on the display and take a photo of the model and serial number label. Having the model number ready helps us bring the right parts, and the code tells your technician where to start.

Common LG Washer Problems and What Causes Them
These are the LG washer problems we are called about most, with the parts a technician checks first and the codes that often appear with them.

Repair or replace
Is Your LG Washer Worth Repairing?
An LG washer is usually worth repairing when the failed part can be replaced without taking the tub apart: drain pumps, door locks, inlet valves, shock absorbers and direct-drive motor parts. The math changes for worn tub bearings on a front-load, which mean disassembling the tub, and for a WashTower, where the washer and dryer are built as one stacked unit. Your written estimate gives you the repair price to compare against a new washer.
Usually worth repairing
- The washer is under about 10 years old
- The problem is a drain pump, door lock, inlet valve or shock absorber
- It is a WashTower or stacked unit that costs more to replace
- The drum, tub and cabinet are free of rust and cracks
Worth weighing carefully
- The washer is more than 10 years old
- The tub bearings have failed and the tub must come apart
- The control board and the motor have both failed
- Repair cost is more than half the price of a new washer

LG Washer Repair Questions
An LG washer that won’t drain usually has a clogged drain pump filter, a kinked or blocked drain hose, a clogged home drain or a failed drain pump, and it often shows OE. On front-load models the filter sits behind the small service cover at the bottom front. LG’s front-load not draining guide (opens in a new tab) walks through the filter and hose checks. If water still won’t drain, book a repair.
An LG washer usually stops spinning because the load is unbalanced (UE), the water hasn’t drained (OE) or the door or lid hasn’t locked (dE). Spread the clothes evenly, clean the drain pump filter, check the drain hose for kinks and make sure nothing is caught in the door. If it still won’t spin with a normal load, worn shock absorbers, the motor or the control board need a technician.
UE means the load is unbalanced and the washer can’t spin safely. LG suggests adding one or two similar items to a small load, or rearranging the clothes and pressing Start/Pause. On top-load models a small uE means the washer is rebalancing on its own, up to three attempts. If UE appears with normal loads, the washer may not be level or the shock absorbers may be worn.
LE means the motor is overloaded or the drum is locked and can’t turn. LG recommends letting the washer rest for 30 minutes and then restarting the cycle. Overloading, running cycles back to back, or a coin or other object jammed in the drum can cause it. If LE keeps returning with normal loads, the motor, motor sensor, wiring or control board needs to be checked.
dE means the door or lid couldn’t lock, so the washer won’t start or spin. Clear any clothing caught in the gasket and close the door firmly. LG’s dE, dE1 and dE2 guide (opens in a new tab) suggests turning the washer off, unplugging it, holding Start/Pause for 5 seconds and restoring power. If the code returns, the door latch or lock assembly usually needs repair.
IE means the washer isn’t getting enough water: check that both taps are fully open, the hoses aren’t kinked and the inlet filters are clean. LG lists PE as a water level sensor error and FE as too much water in the tub, often from excess suds or a clogged drain. LG’s WashTower error code guide (opens in a new tab) explains these codes. If one keeps returning, book a repair.
Common causes are a dirty or torn door gasket, a loose drain or inlet hose, a drain filter cap that wasn’t closed fully after cleaning, or too much detergent creating suds. LG suggests running an empty rinse and spin cycle to confirm the washer is the source. If water still appears, a torn gasket, tub seal or pump leak needs a technician.
Moisture left in the drum and gasket lets mold and bacteria grow, and too much fabric softener adds to it. LG recommends running the Tub Clean cycle (opens in a new tab) every 30 uses or whenever tCL appears, removing laundry promptly and leaving the door and dispenser open to dry. If the smell returns quickly, a clogged drain pump filter or slow drain may be holding water.
On a newly installed washer, check that the shipping bolts were removed. Then make sure the washer is level, the feet are adjusted and the load is spread evenly. LG’s vibration troubleshooting (opens in a new tab) covers these steps. A grinding or roaring noise that gets louder as the drum speeds up usually means worn tub bearings, which a technician should inspect.
If CL is on the display, Child Lock is on: press and hold the Child Lock button for 3 seconds to turn it off (some models use two buttons held together). Sud means too many suds, and the washer runs a suds-reducing cycle that adds about 2 hours, so use less detergent next time. LG’s washer error code list (opens in a new tab) covers other codes. If nothing responds, book a repair.
Stop using the washer. If it is leaking, turn off both water taps behind it. If clothes are sitting in water, remove them and drain the drum if you safely can. Take a photo of the model and serial number label and of any code on the display, and clear space around the washer so your technician can pull it out and reach the back.
Usually, if it is under about 10 years old and the problem is a single part such as a drain pump, door lock, inlet valve or shock absorber. Failed tub bearings, or a failed control board plus a motor on an older washer, often make replacement the better choice. Your technician will give you a written estimate so you can decide.
