LG Washer Error Code OE: What It Means and How to Fix It
Seeing OE on your LG washer? Here is what LG says it means, the checks you can safely do yourself, and when to call a technician.
What Does LG Error Code OE Mean?
An OE code means your LG washer can’t drain the water out of the drum. LG lists a kinked or clogged drain hose and a clogged drain pump filter as the most common causes, and too many suds can also cause it.

What Causes LG Error Code OE?
These are the causes LG lists and the parts a technician checks.
How to Fix LG Error Code OE
Try these steps in order. Unplug the appliance or switch off the breaker before reaching inside or removing panels.
Check the drain hose
Pull the washer out and look for a kinked, crushed or clogged drain hose behind it. Straighten it and run a spin cycle.
Listen to the drain pump
Run a spin-only cycle on high and listen for a hum from the pump in the first 15 seconds. A hum means the pump runs and the filter is the likely problem.
Clean the drain pump filter
With the washer unplugged, open the small panel at the bottom front, drain the leftover water into a pan through the drain tube, then unscrew and rinse the filter. Reinstall it tightly and close the cap on the drain tube.
Run a tub clean cycle
Run Tub Clean and use less HE detergent going forward. Excess suds can trap air and stop the pump from draining.
When to Call a Technician
Schedule a repair if:
- You don’t hear the drain pump hum at all
- OE returns after cleaning the filter and hose
- The filter won’t come out or water won’t drain from the tube
- The washer also shows other codes or leaks

LG Washer OE FAQs
Not until it drains. Clearing the hose or cleaning the drain pump filter fixes many OE errors. If the code keeps coming back, the drain pump or another part likely needs repair.
On most LG front-load washers it is behind a small access panel at the bottom front of the machine. Have towels and a shallow pan ready, because water comes out when you open it.
Too much detergent, a partly blocked drain line or a weak drain pump can all bring the code back. If it returns after a tub clean cycle with less detergent, have the pump checked.
Yes. On LG top-load washers OE also means a drain problem, usually a kinked hose, a clog or a failed pump.
