LG Dryer Repair for Electric, Gas, Heat Pump and WashTower Models
ALAS repairs LG dryers in homes across Dallas–Fort Worth, including front-load electric and gas dryers, steam models, ventless heat pump dryers and the dryer half of LG WashTower laundry centers. LG’s Flow Sense system watches the exhaust and shows d75, d80, d90 or d95 as the vent becomes restricted, while sensor dry uses moisture bars below the lint filter to decide when a load is done. That means a dryer that runs long, ends with damp clothes or shows HS is often an airflow or sensor problem rather than a failed heater. Ventless heat pump models and stacked WashTower units have their own layouts, so your technician tests the venting, heater or gas burner, thermistors, sensor bars, belt, rollers and controls on your specific model before naming the failed part. You get the diagnosis and a written price first, and nothing is repaired until you approve it.
Most LG dryer model numbers start with DL, and WashTower laundry centers start with WK. The model label is usually inside the door opening or on the back panel. Having the model number ready when you book, and telling us whether the dryer is electric or gas, helps us bring the right parts.
Common dryer problems
Common LG Dryer Problems and What Causes Them
These are the LG dryer problems we are called about most, with the parts a technician checks first and the codes that often appear with them.
| Symptom | Common causes a technician checks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Electric dryer not heating | Failed heating element, thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat, one leg of the 240V power missing, power cord wired wrong at the terminal block. Often shown as nP or PS. | Dryer repair |
| Gas dryer not heating | Gas supply valve partly closed, kinked gas line, failed igniter, gas valve coils, flame sensor or thermal fuse. A gas supply problem can show as the gas code. | Dryer repair |
| Taking too long or needing two cycles | Lint-clogged vent or crushed exhaust hose, Energy Saver left on, dirty sensor bars, overloaded drum, weak heat from a failing element or burner. | LG d80 / d90 / d95 guide |
| Flow Sense warning or d75, d80, d90, d95 | The exhaust path is 75 to 95 percent restricted by lint, a crushed or kinked hose, a long duct run with many bends, or an outside vent flap that won’t open. | LG d80 / d90 / d95 guide |
| Drum not turning | Broken drive belt, worn idler pulley or rollers, failed drive motor or door switch, overloaded drum. The door opening mid-cycle also stops the drum. | Dryer repair |
| Won’t start or no power | Tripped breaker, loose cord at the terminal block, door not fully closed (dE), lint filter not seated, Child Lock on, door switch, control board. | Dryer repair |
| Squealing, scraping or thumping | Worn drum rollers, idler pulley or belt, worn drum glides or bearing, loose drum shaft, or coins and zippers hitting the drum. | Dryer repair |
| Ends early, clothes still damp, or tE / HS code | Dirty or failed sensor bars (HS), failed thermistor (tE1, tE2, tE3), load too small to reach the sensors, wiring or control board fault. | LG appliance repair |

Repair or replace
Is Your LG Dryer Worth Repairing?
Many LG dryer calls turn out to be airflow or sensor problems, such as a Flow Sense code from a clogged duct or damp loads from dirty sensor bars, and those are among the simplest fixes. Heating elements, igniters, belts and rollers are usually single-part repairs too. Heat pump dryers and WashTower units cost more to replace, which often tips the decision toward repair. When repair costs approach half the price of a new dryer, we will say so.
Usually worth repairing
- The dryer is under about 10 years old
- The problem is a heater, fuse, igniter, belt, roller or sensor
- It is a WashTower, heat pump or steam model that costs more to replace
- The drum and cabinet are free of rust and damage
Worth weighing carefully
- The dryer is more than 10 years old
- The drum or drum bearing is badly worn or damaged
- The control board and drive motor have both failed
- Repair cost is more than half the price of a new dryer

LG Dryer Overheating, Burning Smell or Gas Smell?
A dryer that is too hot to touch, smells like burning or trips the breaker should not be used until it has been checked, and lint buildup in the dryer or vent is a common cause of dryer fires. If you smell gas near a gas dryer, leave the home right away without using light switches or phones inside, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Otherwise, take these steps and call us. After-hours emergency service is available for an added fee.

LG Dryer Repair Questions
On an electric LG dryer, the usual causes are a failed heating element, thermal fuse or high-limit thermostat, or a power problem; nP means no current is reaching the heater. On a gas model, check that the gas valve is fully open, then suspect the igniter or gas valve coils. LG’s not heating troubleshooting (opens in a new tab) covers the first checks.
Restricted airflow is the most common cause, so clean the lint filter and check that the exhaust hose isn’t crushed and the outside flap opens. LG also notes that Energy Saver is on by default for the Cotton/Normal cycle, which lengthens drying, and that sensor bars should be wiped monthly. If loads still take two cycles, a heater or burner may be weak.
They are Flow Sense warnings that the exhaust path is about 75, 80, 90 or 95 percent restricted. LG says d80 on a gas dryer can also mean low gas supply. Clean the lint filter, straighten the exhaust hose and check the outside vent. If the code stays, the duct inside the wall needs cleaning. Our d80, d90 and d95 guide covers the safe checks.
First rule out the simple causes LG lists: an overloaded drum may not rotate, and opening the door mid-cycle stops it until you close the door and press Start/Pause. If the empty drum still won’t turn, the drive belt, idler pulley, rollers or motor has usually failed. See LG’s drum not turning steps (opens in a new tab).
Check for a dE code, which means the door isn’t fully closed, and make sure the lint filter is seated and Child Lock (CL) is off. Then switch the breaker off and back on. If the drum light is on but the dryer won’t power up, or it still won’t start after a reset, the door switch or control board needs repair.
tE1 and tE3 point to a thermistor, the sensor that reads drying temperature. tE2 can appear in cold conditions, such as when a steam cycle cools the duct quickly. HS is a humidity sensor error, and LG says the dryer then runs about 2.5 hours. Wipe the sensor bars below the lint filter with a damp cloth and let them dry. If a code returns, book a repair. LG’s dryer error code list (opens in a new tab) has the full steps.
nP means no current is detected at the heater, which usually points to the home’s wiring or a tripped breaker. PS means improper voltage at the power cord, which can happen when the cord’s wires are connected wrong at the terminal block. Both need a properly grounded 240V outlet. If the dryer still won’t heat after the breaker is reset, book a repair.
On LG gas dryers, the gas code means the dryer isn’t receiving gas. LG says to confirm the gas supply valve is fully open and the gas line is connected and not kinked. LG also notes that d80 on a gas dryer can mean low gas supply. If the valve is open and the code returns, the igniter or gas valve coils need a technician.
LG’s reset is simple: unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker, press and hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds while it has no power, then restore power and run a cycle. This clears a PF code after a power outage and some control glitches. It won’t fix a failed heater, belt or sensor, so if a code returns, book a repair.
Some sounds are normal, such as a brief high-pitched sound when the belt tightens at startup or thumping from an unbalanced load. LG says a sharp metallic scraping or a continuous squeal can mean worn rollers, a worn belt or a loose drum shaft. Empty pockets first; if the noise continues, stop using it and book a repair. See LG’s dryer noise guide (opens in a new tab).
Yes. We repair LG ventless heat pump dryers and the dryer half of LG WashTower laundry centers, as well as standard electric and gas LG dryers. Heat pump models work differently from vented dryers, so tell us the model number when you book. ALAS also cleans dryer vents, which helps when long drying times or Flow Sense codes come from a clogged duct.
Stop using the dryer if it smells hot or burning. Otherwise, clean the lint filter, check that the exhaust hose behind the dryer isn’t crushed or kinked, and write down any code on the display along with the model number. If you smell gas near a gas dryer, leave the home and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
ALAS is an independent repair company, not an LG authorized service provider, so LG warranty claims go through LG directly. We repair LG dryers that are out of warranty or that you choose to have repaired independently.
