Frigidaire’s own drying advice is a good place to start, because airflow causes so many slow-dry complaints. Frigidaire recommends cleaning the lint screen before or after every load, washing it now and then in warm soapy water, and inspecting and cleaning the whole outdoor exhaust every 18 months. The outside hood damper has to open freely, with no screen over it and at least 12 inches of clearance below. Frigidaire’s Clean Lint light comes on after every cycle and can keep blinking even after cleaning, which is normal. When drying stays slow anyway, the heat side is next: elements and thermal fuses on electric models, igniters and gas valve coils on gas models. Frigidaire also notes that overloading can overheat an electric dryer’s motor and trip its thermal limiter, which stops the dryer.
