It is not a single neighborhood or town; several communities touch its shoreline. Lavon Dam and Its History
The dam stands on the East Fork of the Trinity River. Construction began in January 1948 and was finished in March 1954, and a later modification completed in 1975 raised it.
The lake covers about 21,400 acres at its normal level and serves flood control, water supply and recreation.
Parks on Skyview Drive
East Fork Park, at 1901 Skyview Drive, has a campground with RV and tent sites, a swimming beach, two boat ramps and equestrian sites. It is the only campground on the lake with 50-amp RV service. The Trinity Trail, used by hikers and riders, starts next to it.
Avalon Park, at 3003 Skyview Drive, offers another boat ramp on the south shore.

The Corps lists 17 or more parks and areas around the lake, and some are closed or only partly open while recreation facilities are studied. Check the Corps of Engineers site for current status before heading out.
