(469) 638-3215Seeing dE, FF or CC flashing on your GE refrigerator? Here is what GE says each code means, the reset you can safely try, and when to call a technician.
GE says a lowercase dE means the defrost system hasn’t operated properly in the last 24 hours, so frost can build up and block airflow. FF means frozen food may be thawing because the temperature is too high, and CC means the temperature is incorrect. A capital DE is different: it means demo mode, with cooling disabled. GE says codes vary by model, so confirm yours in your Owner’s Manual. Source: GE refrigerator codes (opens in a new tab).

You may notice one or more of these along with the code.
GE names the system, not one part. These are what a technician tests.
Try these steps in order and keep the doors closed in between.
GE says unplugging the refrigerator for a minute or two may reset the control and clear the code.
For CC and FF, check the temperature settings, make sure the doors close and seal, and don’t block the vents.
If it shows a capital DE, GE says demo mode is on. Unplug it for 1 to 2 minutes and plug it back in.

ALAS technicians repair GE defrost systems, fans and controls, and give you a written estimate before any repair.

GE says lowercase dE means the defrost system hasn’t operated properly in the last 24 hours. Unplug it for a minute or two to reset; if dE returns, schedule service.
GE says capital DE means demo mode: lights and controls work but cooling is off. Lowercase dE is a defrost problem.
GE says FF means frozen food may be thawing because the temperature is too high, and CC means the temperature is incorrect. Check the controls; if the code persists after a reset, call us.
Food safety guidance says perishable food in a refrigerator above 40°F for more than 4 hours should be thrown out. See FoodSafety.gov’s outage guidance (opens in a new tab).
