What Does Check Vent Mean on a GE Dryer?

GE says Check Vent means the vent sensor detected low airflow out of the dryer, which means your vent is blocked. A blocked vent keeps heat and moisture in the drum, makes the dryer hot and lengthens drying, and GE calls lint buildup a safety issue. GE says to clean the vent as soon as possible. How to Fix GE Check Vent

Unplug the dryer before moving it. For gas dryers, take care not to strain the gas line.

1

Clean the duct

GE says to unplug the dryer, disconnect the duct and vacuum it out, and clean the lint filter every load.

2

Check the outside cap

GE says the damper flaps on the outside wall cap should move freely, and to check for nests.

3

Use the right duct

GE recommends 4-inch rigid metal duct, says not to use plastic flexible duct, and says to clean the vent at least once a year.

If Check Vent keeps returning, schedule a vent cleaning or diagnosis.→

GE says at least once a year, and to clean the lint filter every load.

GE describes a test for electric dryers only. Never run a gas dryer without its vent connected, because of the carbon monoxide risk.
