(469) 638-3215Seeing H2O (or H20) on your GE dishwasher? Here is what GE says it means, the checks you can safely do yourself, and when to call a technician.
GE says H2O means low water: not enough or no water came in during the timed fill. It is common on the first run, after plumbing work, or when the valve under the sink was turned off. GE says codes vary by model, so confirm yours in your Owner’s Manual. Sources: GE dishwasher codes (opens in a new tab) and H2O page (opens in a new tab).

These are the causes GE lists and the parts a technician checks.
Try these steps in order.
GE says to open the hot water valve under the sink all the way, especially after plumbing work or on the first run.
GE lists leveling the dishwasher as one of the fixes for H2O.
GE says switching to a different cycle option and back clears the code. Then run a cycle and watch it fill.

GE says H2O means there wasn’t enough water during the timed fill. Open the hot water valve under the sink fully and level the dishwasher, then switch the cycle option to clear it.
GE says it is common after plumbing work, because the valve under the sink is often left partly closed. Open it fully and run another cycle.
GE notes that on models with a 1-Hour Wash cycle, other cycles may still work until service. If H2O returns after you have checked the supply, pressure, valve and leveling, schedule a repair.
Yes. GE writes it both ways; both mean low water during fill.
