GE Dishwasher Repair for Built-In Models
ALAS repairs GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram dishwashers in homes across Dallas–Fort Worth. GE dishwashers show a code when a cycle can’t finish normally: C1 to C3 point to draining, H2O to low water during fill, and 999 either to a control that needs a reset or, on Floor Protect models, a possible leak. Many of these trace back to a clogged filter, air gap or drain hose, or to water that isn’t hot enough; GE says none of its dishwashers can heat cold water to an effective temperature. Your technician checks the filters, sump, drain pump, drain hose, water valve, float, wash motor, heater and controls on your model before naming the failed part. You get the diagnosis and a written price first, and nothing is repaired until you approve it.
GE puts the dishwasher’s model label on the inside edge of the tub opening, on the left or right front, or on the right side edge of the door. Having the model number and any code ready helps us bring the right parts.
Common dishwasher problems
Common GE Dishwasher Problems and What Causes Them
These are the GE dishwasher problems we are called about most, with the parts a technician checks first and the codes that often appear with them.
| Symptom | Common causes a technician checks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Not draining or standing water (C1, C3, FTD) | Clogged filters or rear sump, clogged air gap, kinked drain hose, disposer knockout plug left in, failed drain pump. | GE dishwasher C1 guide |
| H2O code or not filling | Hot water valve under the sink not fully open, low water pressure, dishwasher not level, failed water valve or float. | GE dishwasher H2O guide |
| 999 or lights blinking | A control that needs a reset, a power surge, or on Floor Protect models a possible leak. The Start light also blinks for 75–90 seconds after a reset. | GE dishwasher 999 guide |
| Dishes not getting clean | Water below 120°F, dirty filters, clogged spray arm jets, wrong detergent, low water pressure or a weak wash motor. | Dishwasher repair |
| Leaking or LEAK DETECTED | Door gasket, loose supply or drain connection, over-sudsing from the wrong detergent, failed pump or valve seal. | GE dishwasher 999 guide |
| Won’t start or no power | Door not latched, breaker or GFCI tripped, wall switch off, control lock on, or a control fault. | Dishwasher repair |
| Beeping every 30–60 seconds | GE says the door was unlatched during a cycle. Close it; if it continues, book a diagnosis. | Dishwasher repair |
| C6 or poor drying | Incoming water too cold (C6), rinse aid empty, heater or temperature sensor fault (C7). | Dishwasher repair |

Repair or replace
Is Your GE Dishwasher Worth Repairing?
Many GE dishwasher problems come down to a clogged filter, air gap or drain hose, which are inexpensive fixes. A drain pump, water valve or control is a single part. A failed wash motor plus control board, or a rusted tub, on an older dishwasher is when replacement is worth weighing. We give you the cost first and tell you plainly when a new dishwasher makes more sense.
Usually worth repairing
- The dishwasher is under about 8 to 10 years old
- The problem is a filter, hose, pump, valve or control
- The tub and racks are free of rust
- It is a Profile, Café or Monogram model that costs more to replace
Worth weighing carefully
- The dishwasher is more than 10 years old
- The tub is rusted through or leaking
- The wash motor and control board have both failed
- Repair cost is more than half the price of a new dishwasher

Water leak
GE Dishwasher Leaking?
Water under a dishwasher can soak cabinets and subfloors without showing for days. GE says LEAK DETECTED always needs service. Turn off the water valve under the sink, switch off the dishwasher’s breaker if water is near wiring, and call us. After-hours emergency service is available for an added fee.

GE Dishwasher Repair Questions
GE’s checks start with the filters and the rear sump, then the drain hose, the air gap and the sink drain. If the dishwasher drains into a newly installed garbage disposer, make sure the knockout plug was removed, and run the disposer before the dishwasher. GE notes that 1 to 2 cups of standing water can be normal on models without an Ultra Fine filter. See our C1 guide and GE’s not draining checks (opens in a new tab).
GE says the Start light blinks for 75 to 90 seconds after the dishwasher has been reset and is turning off. Other blinking or beeping can come from a power surge: press Start/Reset, wait 2 minutes, then switch off the breaker for 30 seconds. If it keeps blinking, book a diagnosis. See our 999 guide.
GE says C1 means the pump-out during drain ran more than 2 minutes. Clean the air gap, check the drain hose and run the disposer. If the code persists, book a repair. Our C1 guide covers C2 and C3 too.
GE says H2O means there wasn’t enough water during the timed fill. Open the hot water valve under the sink fully and make sure the dishwasher is level. See our H2O guide.
GE says the water should be at least 120°F at the sink, the dishwasher should be on the hot line, and water pressure should be 20 to 120 PSI. Clean the filters monthly, clear the spray arm jets and use automatic dishwasher detergent only. Run the kitchen faucet hot before starting a cycle. See GE’s cleaning checks (opens in a new tab).
Switch off the dishwasher’s breaker for about 30 seconds, then restore power and press Start/Reset. On models without Floor Protect that show 999, GE says to hold Cycle Select and Start for 5 seconds. If a code returns, the part behind it needs repair.
Often, yes. Drain pumps, water valves, controls and door parts are single repairs. If the dishwasher is more than about 10 years old and the tub is rusted or the motor and board have both failed, replacement may make more sense, and your technician will say so.
Yes. We repair GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram dishwashers. Tell us the model number when you book.
ALAS is an independent repair company, not a GE authorized service provider. GE says its warranty period is typically one year (see your Owner's Manual), and GE's own service brand, Bodewell, handles warranty repairs, so contact GE first if your dishwasher is still covered (GE warranty information (opens in a new tab)). We repair GE dishwashers that are out of warranty or that you choose to have repaired independently.
We repair GE dishwashers across Dallas–Fort Worth, including Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Allen, Dallas, Richardson, Coppell, Southlake, Keller and Grapevine. Enter your ZIP code in the service area section to check coverage.
