Whirlpool Oven, Range and Cooktop Repair
ALAS repairs Whirlpool ovens and ranges in homes across Dallas–Fort Worth, including freestanding and slide-in gas and electric ranges, single and double wall ovens, and gas, electric and induction cooktops. Whirlpool ranges report many faults as an F code, such as F1E0 for the oven control, F3E0 for the oven temperature sensor and F9-1 for the door latch, and Whirlpool names only the areas to check. Some no-heat calls aren’t failures at all: Whirlpool lists Control Lock, demo mode and a delayed start as common reasons an oven powers on but won’t heat. Your technician tests the bake and broil elements or igniters, temperature sensor, door latch, control and wiring on your model before naming the failed part. You get the diagnosis and a written price first, and nothing is repaired until you approve it.
Whirlpool freestanding electric ranges usually start with WFE and gas ranges with WFG. On a range, Whirlpool puts the model label on the oven frame or the storage drawer frame; on a built-in wall oven it is at the top of the oven cavity, and on a cooktop it is on the underside. Telling us whether it is gas or electric helps us bring the right parts.
Common oven and range problems
Common Whirlpool Oven and Range Problems and What Causes Them
These are the Whirlpool oven and range problems we are called about most, with the parts a technician checks first and the codes that often appear with them.
| Symptom | Common causes a technician checks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Electric oven not heating | Control Lock, demo mode or delayed start set by mistake, failed bake element, temperature sensor, control relay or loose wiring after an install. | Oven repair |
| Gas oven not heating | Gas valve not fully on, weak or failed igniter (the cooktop works but the oven doesn’t), gas safety valve or control fault. | Oven repair |
| Temperature off or food burning (F3E0) | Oven temperature sensor out of range or touching the wall, worn door gasket, control calibration or a failing element or igniter. | Whirlpool F3E0 guide |
| Door locked or lock error (F9-1, F9-2) | Door latch or door lock switch fault, often after a clean cycle, or wiring to the latch. | Whirlpool F9 door lock guide |
| F1E0, F6E0 or Call Service | The control has detected a fault in the oven control, appliance manager or wiring. A code that returns after a reset needs diagnosis. | Whirlpool appliance repair |
| Gas burners clicking or not lighting | Clogged burner ports, caps not seated flat, wet igniter after a spill, failed spark switch or spark module. | Cooktop repair |
| Electric burner or element not heating | Burned-out surface element, loose terminal, failed infinite switch or control. | Cooktop repair |
| Keypad or display not responding (F2E0) | Failed touch keypad, user interface board or wiring between the keypad and control. | Oven repair |

Repair or replace
Is Your Whirlpool Oven or Range Worth Repairing?
Most Whirlpool oven and range repairs are single parts, such as a bake element, igniter, temperature sensor, door latch or keypad, and they cost far less than a new range. Wall ovens and slide-in ranges cost more to replace, which often tips the decision toward repair. A failed control board on an older range is the main repair worth weighing. You get the cost first, and when replacement makes more sense, we will say so.
Usually worth repairing
- The range or oven is under about 15 years old
- The problem is an element, igniter, sensor, latch or keypad
- It is a wall oven or slide-in range that costs more to replace
- The cavity, door glass and cooktop are in good condition
Worth weighing carefully
- The range is more than 15 years old
- The control board has failed and parts are hard to find
- The oven cavity or cooktop glass is badly damaged
- Repair cost is more than half the price of a new range

Smell Gas Near Your Whirlpool Range?
If you smell gas, leave the home right away. Don’t use light switches, phones or anything that could spark inside, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. A range that sparks, smells like burning wiring or trips the breaker should not be used until it has been checked. Otherwise, take these steps and call us. After-hours emergency service is available for an added fee.

Whirlpool Oven and Range Repair Questions
Whirlpool lists a few settings to rule out first: Control Lock (hold the button about 3 seconds), demo mode and a delayed start. On an electric oven, the bake element should glow red; on a gas oven, the igniter is the most common cause when the cooktop works but the oven doesn’t. If the oven still won’t heat, book a diagnosis. See Whirlpool’s oven not heating checks (opens in a new tab).
Whirlpool says F3E0 points to a problem with the oven temperature sensor, the control or the wiring between them. F3-1 means the same on older displays. Our F3E0 guide covers the reset and when to call.
Whirlpool says F1E0 means there may be a problem with the oven control or its wiring. Switch off the breaker for 1 minute, restore power and watch the range for a minute. If F1E0 returns, the control needs to be tested by a technician.
The door locks during a clean cycle and stays locked until the oven cools. If it stays locked or shows F9-1 or F9-2, Whirlpool points to the door latch, the door lock switch or the wiring. See our F9 door lock guide.
Whirlpool suggests checking that the burner caps sit flat on their bases and clearing clogged ports with a straight pin or thin wire while the cooktop is cool and off. Don’t use oven cleaner or bleach on the burners. If they still won’t light, the spark switch or module needs repair. See Whirlpool’s burner checks (opens in a new tab).
No. Whirlpool says commercial oven cleaners and metal scouring pads can permanently damage the AquaLift oven’s porcelain. AquaLift is a low-heat, water-based clean that uses about 2 cups of distilled or filtered water. See Whirlpool’s AquaLift instructions (opens in a new tab).
Whirlpool’s reset is to switch off the range’s breaker for 1 minute, turn it back on and watch the oven for a minute to confirm it works normally. If a code returns after the reset, the part behind it needs repair.
Usually, yes. Elements, igniters, sensors, latches and keypads are single-part repairs. Wall ovens and slide-in ranges are especially worth repairing because they cost more to replace and may need cabinet changes.
ALAS is an independent repair company, not a Whirlpool authorized service provider, so warranty claims go through Whirlpool (warranty information (opens in a new tab)). We repair Whirlpool ovens and ranges that are out of warranty or that you choose to have repaired independently.
