What Does UE Mean on a GE Washer?

GE says UE means the load is unbalanced. A blinking Spin light means the washer detected an out-of-balance load and is correcting it so it can finish the cycle. Most of the time, redistributing the load and leveling the washer fixes it. GE says codes vary by model, so confirm yours in your Owner’s Manual. How to Fix GE UE

Try these steps in order.

1

Redistribute the load

GE says to spread the clothes evenly. Pair a single heavy item, like a bath mat, with a few towels.

2

Run Drain & Spin

If the load is wetter than normal, GE says to redistribute it and run Drain & Spin (or Spin).

3

Level the washer

GE says to make sure the washer is level. Adjust the feet so it doesn’t rock.

If UE keeps returning with normal loads, schedule a diagnosis.→

When to Call a Technician

Schedule a repair if:

  • UE returns with normal loads
  • The washer bangs or walks when level
  • You hear a roar during spin
  • The tub looks loose or tilted

GE Washer UE FAQs

GE says UE means the load is unbalanced. Redistribute it evenly and make sure the washer is level.

GE says a blinking Spin (or Spin & Rinse) light means the washer detected an out-of-balance load and corrected it. If clothes are wetter than normal, redistribute them and run Drain & Spin.

If the washer is level and the loads are normal, worn suspension, dampers or a drive problem may be the cause, and a technician should check it.

GE says to wait out normal pauses, close the lid, set the Options knob on an option and rebalance the load. If the pump and motor run but the tub won’t spin, GE says a service call is needed.
