Whirlpool lists F3E1 under the exhaust thermistor, the sensor that reads the temperature of the air leaving the drum. Whirlpool’s fix is a power reset. If the code returns, the thermistor, its wiring or the control needs testing. Related codes: F3E2 (moisture sensor data) and F3E3 (inlet thermistor). You may notice one or more of these along with the code.
Whirlpool names only the exhaust thermistor area. These are the parts a technician tests.
Try these steps in order. Switch off the dryer’s breakers before touching the back panel or vent.
Switch off the breaker or breakers for 1 minute, turn them back on, start a Timed Dry cycle and watch it for 1 minute.
Clean the lint screen and make sure the vent behind the dryer isn’t crushed, since overheating from poor airflow stresses the sensors.
Whirlpool says F3E2 appears after five loads without moisture sensor data. Level the dryer and use a larger load or an Automatic cycle.

ALAS technicians test Whirlpool dryer thermistors, sensors and wiring, and give you a written estimate before any repair.

Whirlpool lists F3E1 under the exhaust thermistor. Its fix is to switch off the breakers for 1 minute, restore power and run a Timed Dry cycle. If the code comes back, the thermistor or wiring needs testing.
Whirlpool says F3E2 appears when five loads in a row dry without moisture sensor data, often because loads are too small to touch the sensors or the dryer isn’t level. F3E3 is listed under the inlet thermistor.
If the code returns, stop using the dryer until it is checked. The thermistor helps the dryer control its temperature, so a fault can cause poor drying or overheating.
A thermistor is usually an inexpensive part. Your technician confirms whether the thermistor, wiring or control is at fault and gives you a written estimate before any work.
