Book Your Whirlpool Refrigerator Repair
Whirlpool Refrigerator Repair for Every Style
ALAS repairs Whirlpool refrigerators in homes across Dallas–Fort Worth, including French door, four-door, side-by-side, top-freezer and bottom-freezer models, with or without an ice and water dispenser. A warm fresh-food section with a cold freezer usually points to airflow or defrost, not the compressor, so your technician checks the controls, evaporator and condenser fans, defrost heater and sensors, door gaskets and condenser coils before testing the sealed system. Whirlpool says its refrigerators are built for indoor rooms between 55°F and 110°F, which matters for DFW garages in July and August. You get the diagnosis and a written price first, nothing is repaired until you approve it, and sealed-system repairs carry a 12-month warranty.
Whirlpool French door models usually start with WRF, four-door models with WRX and side-by-side models with WRS. Whirlpool puts the model label inside the fresh-food compartment: on the left wall for French door, top-freezer and bottom-freezer models, and on the right wall for side-by-side models. A photo of the label when you book helps us bring the right parts.
Common refrigerator problems
Common Whirlpool Refrigerator Problems and What Causes Them
These are the Whirlpool refrigerator problems we are called about most, with the parts a technician checks first.
| Symptom | Common causes a technician checks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Fridge warm but freezer still cold | Evaporator fan not moving air into the fresh-food side, frost blocking the air duct from a defrost fault, damper or temperature sensor problem. | Refrigerator not cooling guide |
| Fridge and freezer both warm | COOLING OFF or demo mode turned on, dirty condenser coils, condenser fan, start relay or compressor problem, or the unit sitting in a room above 110°F. | Whirlpool COOLING OFF guide |
| Frost or ice on the back wall of the freezer | Defrost heater, defrost thermostat or control not running the defrost cycle, or a torn door gasket letting humid air in. | Refrigerator repair |
| Temperature alarm or flashing F code | The fridge rose above 48°F or the freezer above 15°F for more than 1.5 hours, or the control has detected a fault. A code that returns after a reset needs diagnosis. | Whirlpool COOLING OFF guide |
| Water leaking inside or under the fridge | Frozen or clogged defrost drain, cracked water line, loose filter housing, failed water inlet valve or drain pan out of place. | Refrigerator repair |
| Ice maker or water dispenser not working | Water filter not locked in, kinked supply line, failed inlet valve, ice maker module or dispenser switch. | Whirlpool ice maker repair |
| Loud buzzing, clicking or rattling | Fan blade hitting ice, worn fan motor, start relay clicking on and off, loose drain pan, or an ice maker running with no water supply. | Refrigerator repair |
| Runs all the time or cycles constantly | Dusty condenser coils, weak door seal, very warm room or garage, condenser fan or a refrigerant problem. | Refrigerator not cooling guide |

Repair or replace
Is Your Whirlpool Refrigerator Worth Repairing?
Most Whirlpool refrigerator repairs are single parts, such as a fan motor, defrost heater, sensor, inlet valve or control board, and those usually cost far less than a new refrigerator. A compressor or sealed-system repair is the one worth weighing on an older unit. Your technician tells you the cost before any work, and when the repair approaches half the price of a comparable new refrigerator, we will say so.
Usually worth repairing
- The refrigerator is under about 10 years old
- The problem is a fan, defrost part, sensor, valve or board
- It is a French door or built-in model that costs more to replace
- The cabinet, liner and doors are in good shape
Worth weighing carefully
- The refrigerator is more than 12 to 15 years old
- The compressor or sealed system has failed on an older unit
- The liner is cracked or the cabinet is rusting
- Repair cost is more than half the price of a new refrigerator

Food at risk
Whirlpool Refrigerator Stopped Cooling?
A refrigerator that stops cooling puts food at risk within hours. Keep the doors closed, check that cooling hasn’t been switched off at the control panel, and call us. If the fridge has been above 40°F for more than 4 hours, food safety guidance says to throw out perishable food. After-hours emergency service is available for an added fee.

Whirlpool Refrigerator Repair Questions
The freezer is where the cold air is made, and a fan sends it into the fresh-food side. When the freezer stays cold but the fridge warms up, the evaporator fan, a damper, a sensor or frost from a defrost fault is usually blocking that airflow. Check that food isn’t blocking the vents, then book a diagnosis if it doesn’t recover within 24 hours.
COOLING OFF means the cooling function has been switched off, so neither section will cool even though the lights and display work. It can be turned off by accident during cleaning or after a power outage. See our COOLING OFF guide for how Whirlpool says to turn it back on.
Whirlpool says the alarm sounds when the refrigerator rises above 48°F or the freezer above 15°F for more than 1½ hours. Press Alarm to silence it, keep the doors closed and watch the temperatures. If they don’t come back down, book a repair. Whirlpool’s temperature alarm page (opens in a new tab) has the details.
Whirlpool’s support pages say a flashing F code (such as F3E1, F4E1 or F8E1) means the refrigerator should be reset: switch off the breaker or unplug it for 1 minute, restore power and make sure cooling is on. Whirlpool doesn’t name a failed part for these codes, so if the code returns, a technician has to test the system to find the cause.
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker for 1 minute, restore power, confirm cooling is turned on and watch it for a minute. Then give it up to 24 hours to reach temperature. A reset clears a control glitch, but it won’t fix a failed fan, defrost heater or compressor.
Whirlpool says its refrigerators are designed for indoor rooms between 55°F and 110°F. A DFW garage can pass 110°F in summer, which makes the compressor run constantly and can stop the fridge from holding temperature. Keep the coils clean and leave space around the unit, and call us if it can’t keep up.
On French door, top-freezer and bottom-freezer models, the label is inside the fresh-food compartment on the left wall. On side-by-side models it is on the right wall. Whirlpool’s model number guide (opens in a new tab) shows every location.
Usually, yes. Fans, defrost parts, sensors, valves and control boards are single-part repairs that cost much less than a new refrigerator. A failed compressor on a refrigerator more than 12 to 15 years old is the main case where replacement may make more sense, and your technician will tell you plainly.
ALAS is an independent repair company, not a Whirlpool authorized service provider. Whirlpool says its limited warranty typically lasts a year from delivery, so if your refrigerator is still covered, contact Whirlpool first (warranty information (opens in a new tab)). We repair Whirlpool refrigerators that are out of warranty or that you choose to have repaired independently.
Yes. Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana and JennAir are Whirlpool Corporation brands, and we repair them as well. Tell us the brand and model number when you book.
Repairs carry a 90-day warranty, or 6 months for ALAS members. Sealed-system repairs, such as compressor and refrigerant work, carry 12 months for every customer. The exact coverage is written on your invoice.
