LG Refrigerator Repair for Every Door Style
ALAS repairs LG refrigerators in homes across Dallas–Fort Worth, from French door and side-by-side models to InstaView, Door-in-Door, top freezer and bottom freezer units. Most current LG refrigerators run a linear or inverter linear compressor and use one evaporator and fan system that feeds both sections, so a single frosted coil or stalled fan can warm the whole refrigerator. LG displays name the area at fault: FF or rF for a fan, dH for a defrost cycle that didn’t finish, 22 or 33 for the compressor relay, CH E or CL E for a refrigerant leak, and 67 when a door isn’t closing fully. Your technician uses that code as a starting point, tests the parts behind it and gives you a written price before any repair begins.
The model and serial number label on most LG refrigerators is inside the fresh food section on a side wall. A photo of the label when you book helps us bring the right parts.
Common refrigerator problems
Common LG Refrigerator Problems and What Causes Them
These are the LG refrigerator problems we are called about most, with the parts a technician checks first and the codes that often appear with them.
| Symptom | Common causes a technician checks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Not cooling in either section | Demo mode on (OFF on the display), dirty condenser or blocked airflow, condenser fan (CF), compressor relay or start problem (22 or 33), refrigerant leak (CH E or CL E). | Refrigerator not cooling |
| Freezer cold but refrigerator warm | Frost blocking the evaporator, failed defrost heater, sensor or control (dH), refrigerator fan problem (rF), air damper stuck closed, vents blocked by food. | LG ER dH guide |
| Ice or frost building up in the freezer | Door not closing fully, worn or twisted gasket, blocked defrost drain line, freezer set below 0°F, defrost system failure. | LG ER dH guide |
| Showing ER FF or ER IF | Freezer or ice maker fan blocked by frost or ice, failed fan motor, defrost problem letting ice form around the fan. | LG ER IF / ER FF guide |
| Leaking water inside or onto the floor | Water filter O-rings or cracked filter housing, ice bin or chute not seated, frozen defrost drain, water supply line or inlet valve leak. | Refrigerator repair |
| Ice maker or water dispenser not working | Ice maker switched off, frozen fill tube, water inlet valve, low water pressure or flow (gF), ice maker fan or sensor fault. | LG ice maker repair |
| Loud humming, clicking, buzzing or rattling | Fan blade hitting ice, worn condenser fan motor, compressor start problem, refrigerator not level, loose drain pan or panels. | Refrigerator repair |
| Display codes or controls not responding | Door gap or an item stopping a door from closing (67), auto door motor fault (Ad), board-to-display communication error (CO), temperature sensor (FS or rS). | LG appliance repair |

Repair or replace
Is Your LG Refrigerator Worth Repairing?
An InstaView, Door-in-Door or large French door LG refrigerator is a significant purchase, and most of its failures are fans, defrost parts, sensors, water valves or gaskets that can be replaced on their own. The harder calls involve the linear compressor or sealed system on an older unit, where we compare the repair cost with the age of the refrigerator and the price of a similar new model, and put both in front of you in writing.
Usually worth repairing
- The refrigerator is under about 10 to 12 years old
- The problem is a fan, defrost part, sensor, valve or gasket
- It is a French door, InstaView or built-in style that costs more to replace
- The cabinet, liner and doors are in good condition
Worth weighing carefully
- The refrigerator is more than 12 years old
- The sealed system has a refrigerant leak on an older unit
- The control board and compressor have both failed
- Repair cost is more than half the price of a new refrigerator

LG Refrigerator Repair Questions
The usual causes are Demo mode, blocked airflow, a dusty condenser area, a failed fan, a defrost problem, a compressor relay fault (22 or 33) or a refrigerant leak (CH E or CL E). Check the display first: OFF means Demo mode is on and cooling is disabled, and LG explains how to turn off Demo mode (opens in a new tab). If it still won’t cool, book a technician.
Cold air for the refrigerator section comes from the freezer side, so a frosted-over evaporator, a failed defrost part, a fan that has stopped or a stuck air damper can leave the freezer cold and the fridge warm. LG often shows dH, FF or rF when this happens. A technician tests the defrost system and fans to find the cause.
FF points to a problem with the freezer fan and IF to the ice maker fan, and LG notes that frost or ice buildup is a common cause of both. The fan may be frozen in place or the motor may have failed. Our LG ER IF and ER FF guide covers the safe checks and when to call.
dH means a defrost cycle didn’t finish as expected: the refrigerator didn’t reach the right temperature within the set time. Frost then builds on the evaporator and cooling drops, often in the refrigerator section first. The defrost heater, sensor or control is usually involved. See our LG ER dH guide for next steps.
LG’s refrigerator error code list (opens in a new tab) includes FS and rS for freezer and refrigerator sensor faults, CF for the condenser fan, 22 or 33 for a compressor relay problem, CH E or CL E for a refrigerant leak, gF for low water flow and CO for a communication error. Most need a technician to test the part involved.
LG lists door gaps, a worn or twisted gasket, a blocked drain line, a freezer set below 0°F, an unlevel refrigerator and hot food as common causes. A sheet of ice on the freezer floor that returns after a manual defrost usually means a blocked drain line. LG’s frost buildup guide (opens in a new tab) covers the manual defrost steps.
Inside the refrigerator, LG’s leak troubleshooting guide (opens in a new tab) points to the water filter first: check the O-rings and that the filter is locked in. A cracked filter housing needs repair, and an ice bin not seated fully can also leak. Water under the crisper drawers or on the floor often comes from a frozen defrost drain or a supply line or inlet valve.
An LG freezer usually stops freezing because the temperature is set too high, a door isn’t sealing, the vents are blocked by food or frost, or dust and tight spacing are restricting airflow behind the unit. LG’s freezer not cold enough guide (opens in a new tab) suggests filling it no more than about 60% and checking the gasket. If a code appears or it won’t freeze at all, book a repair.
Often, yes. Not every cooling failure is the compressor itself. A technician first checks the condenser fan, start circuit and control board, since a compressor relay problem shows as 22 or 33 on LG models. If the compressor or sealed system has failed, we explain the repair and its cost in writing so you can compare it with replacement.
Usually, if it is under about 10 to 12 years old and the problem is a single part such as a fan, defrost part, sensor, water valve or gasket. A sealed-system failure on an older unit, or a failed board plus compressor, often makes replacement the better choice. Your technician gives you a written estimate so you can decide.
Move perishable food to a cooler with ice and keep the doors closed as much as possible. Clear space in front of the refrigerator, and take a photo of the model label and any code on the display. Don’t chip ice with sharp tools or melt it with heat, which can damage the liner and lines. If it’s leaking, turn off the water supply valve.
