LG Dishwasher Repair for Built-In Models
ALAS repairs LG dishwashers in homes across Dallas–Fort Worth, including QuadWash models with Multi-Motion spray arms and TrueSteam models that use steam during washing and drying. LG dishwashers report most problems with a code: AE or E1 when water in the base trips the float switch, OE when it can’t drain, IE when it doesn’t fill within 10 minutes, HE when the water doesn’t heat correctly, and LE or CE for a motor error. The same LG code can come from more than one part, so an AE might be a door gasket, a sump leak or simply too much detergent, and an LE might be the motor or its wiring harness. Your technician tests the parts behind the code on your model, explains what failed, and gives you a written price before any repair starts.
Most LG dishwasher model numbers begin with LD. The model label is usually on the side or top edge of the door or tub, visible when the door is open. Having the model number ready when you book helps us bring the right parts.
Common dishwasher problems
Common LG Dishwasher Problems and What Causes Them
These are the LG dishwasher problems we are called about most, with the parts a technician checks first and the codes that often appear with them.
| Symptom | Common causes a technician checks | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Not draining or showing OE | Clogged mesh filter, kinked or poorly routed drain hose, blocked sink air gap, disposal knockout plug left in place, failed drain pump. | Dishwasher repair |
| Leaking or showing AE / E1 | Water in the base pan from a door gasket, hose, sump or pump leak, an unlevel dishwasher, damaged spray arms, or too much or the wrong detergent. | LG error code AE |
| Not filling or showing IE | Supply valve partly closed, kinked supply line, low water pressure, a flood-safe hose or check valve restricting flow, failed water inlet valve. | Dishwasher repair |
| Dishes not getting clean | Clogged filter, spray arms blocked by dishes, worn QuadWash spray arm drive, weak circulation motor, liquid or low-quality detergent. | Dishwasher repair |
| Not drying or not heating | Rinse aid empty or set too low, failed heater or thermistor, steam function problem on TrueSteam models. Often shown as HE or tE. | Dishwasher repair |
| Won’t start or buttons not responding | Door not fully latched, child lock on (CL), delay start set, door switch, power supply or main control board. | Dishwasher repair |
| Too much water or FE code | Water inlet valve not closing, drain problem leaving water behind, flow or float switch fault. LG shows FE when too much water is detected. | Dishwasher repair |
| Humming, grinding or LE / CE code | Debris in the pump, worn circulation or drain motor, motor wiring harness, spray arm motor (nE), spray arm hitting dishes. | Dishwasher repair |

Repair or replace
Is Your LG Dishwasher Worth Repairing?
On LG dishwashers, the most common failures, such as a drain pump behind OE, an inlet valve behind IE, a gasket or hose leak behind AE, or a door latch, are usually fixed by replacing one part. Repair gets harder to justify on an older unit when the tub is damaged or several major parts have failed together. Your written estimate gives you the numbers to decide.
Usually worth repairing
- The dishwasher is under about 10 years old
- The problem is a drain pump, inlet valve, door latch or leak
- It is a QuadWash or TrueSteam model you are otherwise happy with
- The tub and racks are free of rust and cracks
Worth weighing carefully
- The dishwasher is more than 10 years old
- The tub itself is cracked or rusted through
- The control board and a motor have both failed
- Repair cost is more than half the price of a new dishwasher

Urgent repair
LG Dishwasher Leaking or Flooding?
When AE or E1 appears, water has already reached the base pan and lifted the float switch, so the leak is real even if the floor looks dry. Water that runs under the cabinet toe-kick can stay hidden for days, so stop the supply now and call us. After-hours emergency service is available for an added fee.

LG Dishwasher Repair Questions
An LG dishwasher that won’t drain usually has a clogged mesh filter, a kinked drain hose, a blocked sink air gap, a disposal knockout plug left in after installation, or a failed drain pump, and it often shows OE. LG’s not-draining guide (opens in a new tab) says the hose end should sit 12 to 40 inches above the floor. If water still stands after a cycle, book a repair.
AE or E1 means water in the base has activated the float switch. Common causes are an unlevel unit, a dirty or damaged door gasket, damaged spray arms, a hose or pump leak, or too much detergent. To reset it, LG says to unplug the dishwasher and let it dry completely, which can take up to 48 hours. Our LG AE guide covers the safe checks.
bE usually means too many suds from the wrong detergent, or a dishwasher that isn’t level. LG says to use only automatic dishwasher detergent, never hand-washing dish liquid, and to level the unit front to back and side to side. Then reset the power and run a cycle. If bE keeps returning with the right detergent, book a repair.
IE means the water level didn’t rise high enough within 10 minutes of filling. Check that the supply valve under the sink is fully open and the supply line isn’t kinked. LG also notes that flood-safe hoses and check valves can restrict flow. If IE returns with good water supply, the water inlet valve is a common cause.
HE is a heater error: the water couldn’t be heated, or it got hotter than LG’s limit of 149°F. LG suggests switching off the breaker for 10 seconds, turning it back on and starting a new cycle. If HE comes back, a technician checks the heater, thermistor and wiring.
The most common causes are a clogged filter, dishes blocking the spray arms, large food scraps left on dishes, or liquid detergent, which LG does not recommend. Clean the filter, check that the QuadWash spray arms turn freely and reload so nothing touches them. If dishes are still dirty, the circulation motor or spray arm drive may be worn.
Check that rinse aid is filled and not set to its lowest level, since LG notes that low rinse aid settings cause spotting and longer cycles. Plastic items also dry less well. If dishes stay wet with rinse aid filled, or you see HE or tE, the heater, thermistor or steam function on TrueSteam models may need repair.
First check that the door is fully latched, that CL (child lock) isn’t showing, and that a delay start time isn’t set. Then reset the breaker. If the display lights but the cycle still won’t begin, or the panel is dead, a door switch, power supply board or main control board is the likely cause and needs a technician.
Turn the dishwasher off, switch off its breaker for about 10 seconds, switch it back on, then power the dishwasher on and start a new cycle. LG’s dishwasher error code list (opens in a new tab) gives this reset for codes such as LE, CE, FE and HE. A reset doesn’t fix a failed part, so if the same code returns, book a repair.
Often, yes. Most LG repairs come down to one part: a drain pump, inlet valve, door gasket, latch, heater or thermistor, or the QuadWash spray arm drive and its motor. Those are worth fixing on a dishwasher you are otherwise happy with. A rusted or cracked tub, or a failed main board plus a circulation motor on an older unit, usually points toward replacement.
If the dishwasher is leaking, turn off the water valve under the sink and switch off the dishwasher’s breaker. Remove standing water from the tub and floor if you can do so safely. Write down any code on the display, and take a photo of the model label on the edge of the door or tub so your technician can bring the right parts.
ALAS is an independent repair company, not an LG authorized service provider, so LG warranty claims go through LG directly. We repair LG dishwashers that are out of warranty or that you choose to have repaired independently, including QuadWash and TrueSteam models.
