Samsung Ice Maker Repair for French Door and Side-by-Side Refrigerators
ALAS repairs ice makers in Samsung refrigerators across Dallas–Fort Worth, including French door models with the ice maker in the fresh food compartment, side-by-side and four-door Flex models, and refrigerators with dual ice makers. Samsung ice makers need the freezer at 0°F or colder and steady water pressure of at least 20 psi to make ice. When the settings, water filter and supply check out, a technician checks the ice maker assembly, fan and seals in the ice compartment, water inlet valve, fill tube and dispenser to find what actually failed. You get the diagnosis and a written price first, and nothing is repaired until you approve it.
Samsung refrigerator model numbers start with RF for French door and four-door models and RS for side-by-side models. The model label is usually inside the fresh food compartment on a side wall. Having the model number ready when you book helps us bring the right parts.

Repair or replace
Is Your Samsung Ice Maker Worth Repairing?
Most Samsung ice maker problems, including the ice maker assembly, inlet valve, fill tube and seals, are single-part repairs that cost far less than a new refrigerator. Repeated freezing usually points to a seal, fan or airflow problem that should be fixed along with the ice maker, so it doesn’t return. Your technician will explain what failed and why.
Usually worth repairing
- The refrigerator itself cools normally
- The problem is the ice maker, inlet valve, fill tube or seals
- It is a French door, four-door or side-by-side model that costs more to replace
- The refrigerator is under about 12 years old
Worth weighing carefully
- The refrigerator is also not cooling properly
- The ice maker keeps freezing after several repairs
- The refrigerator is more than 12 years old
- Repair cost is more than half the price of a new refrigerator

Samsung Ice Maker Repair Questions
Check that Ice Off isn’t turned on, the freezer is at 0°F or colder, and nothing but ice is in the bucket. Samsung also recommends checking that the water supply is fully open and replacing an old filter. Production can take up to 24 hours to recover. If there is still no ice, book a repair.
Samsung’s ice maker troubleshooting guide (opens in a new tab) says to press and hold the ice maker’s Test button until you hear a chime, which can take up to 10 seconds. The test takes about 6 minutes on ice makers in the fresh food compartment and about 30 seconds on freezer ice makers. If there is no chime even after turning the power off for 2 minutes, the ice maker likely needs service.
A frozen-over ice maker usually means warm, moist air is getting into the ice compartment through a worn seal or an ice bucket that isn’t fully seated, or that the compartment fan or fill tube has a problem. Don’t defrost it with a hair dryer or heat gun. Book a repair so the cause is fixed along with the ice.
Small or hollow cubes usually mean the ice maker isn’t getting enough water. Samsung ice makers need at least 20 psi of water pressure. An old water filter, a reverse osmosis system, a kinked line or a weak inlet valve can all reduce flow.
Samsung rates its filters for about 300 gallons, roughly every 6 months for an average household. A clogged filter is a common reason for slow ice production, so replacing it is one of the first checks.
Leaks usually come from an inlet valve that overfills, a cracked fill tube or water line, or a frozen tube that melts. Turn off the water supply to the refrigerator and set the ice maker to Ice Off, then book a repair.
Both happen. Seals, fans, fill tubes and inlet valves are repaired or replaced on their own. When the ice maker assembly itself has failed, it is replaced as a unit. Either way it costs far less than a new refrigerator.
ALAS is an independent repair company, not a Samsung authorized service provider, so Samsung warranty claims go through Samsung directly. We repair Samsung refrigerators and ice makers that are out of warranty or that you choose to have repaired independently.
Yes. We repair built-in and undercounter ice machines in homes, and commercial ice machines for businesses. See our ice maker repair page.
