Fort Worth Vent Hood Repair
Fort Worth kitchens use under-cabinet hoods, wall and island chimney hoods, and custom hood inserts in remodeled kitchens, many ducted up through the roof, and outdoor kitchens often have their own hoods.
A range hood that won’t turn on, barely pulls smoke or rattles every time you cook leaves grease, odors and heat in your kitchen. ALAS Appliance Repair has been repairing vent hoods for families across Dallas–Fort Worth, including Fort Worth, since 2019. We repair under-cabinet, wall-mount chimney, island, custom insert and pro-style hoods, plus inline and remote blowers, from Vent-A-Hood, Wolf, Thermador, Best, Broan, Zephyr, Miele, Viking, Monogram, GE, KitchenAid and other major brands.
Every visit starts with a full diagnosis. We test the blower motor and fan, switches, keypad and control board, lights, heat sensor, filters and dampers, and check that the duct is moving air. Then we explain the problem and your repair options before any work begins. If you go ahead, the diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair.

Repair or replace
Repair or Replace Your Range Hood?
Most range hoods last about 15 years, and well-kept hoods can last up to 20. Custom hood inserts and pro-style hoods are almost always worth repairing, because the motor, controls and lights are replaceable inside the existing hood.
Usually worth repairing
- It is a custom insert, island or pro-style hood
- The hood is under 10 years old
- The problem is a motor, switch, light, filter or damper
- Replacing it would mean refinishing a custom hood cover
Worth weighing carefully
- It is a basic under-cabinet hood
- The hood is more than 15 years old
- Both the motor and control board have failed
- Replacement parts are discontinued for your model

Yes. We repair custom hood inserts and liners, island and wall chimney hoods, under-cabinet hoods, inline blowers and outdoor kitchen hoods in Fort Worth homes.
Check the breaker first. If the lights work but the fan doesn’t, the usual causes are a failed blower motor, fan switch, keypad or control board, or a loose wire. If nothing on the hood works after the breaker is reset, the outlet or circuit may need an electrician.
Grease-clogged filters are the most common cause. A damper stuck closed in the hood or at the outside vent cap, a damaged blower wheel or a weak motor can also reduce airflow. Clean or replace the filters first, then check that the outside flap opens when the fan runs.
A loose or bent blower wheel, worn motor bearings, loose panels or filters, a flapping damper, or debris in the duct can make a hood rattle or hum. A hood that has gotten louder over time usually has a motor or blower wheel wearing out.
Start with the bulbs. If new bulbs don’t work, the usual causes are a failed light socket, light switch, transformer or control board. Many hoods use halogen or LED bulbs that need an exact replacement.
Many range hoods have a heat sensor that starts the fan automatically when the cooktop below gets hot, then turns it off as things cool down. That is a normal safety feature. A fan that runs when nothing is hot, or won’t turn off, usually has a stuck switch, relay or control board.
Clean metal mesh or baffle filters about once a month if you cook regularly, and more often with frequent frying. Many are dishwasher-safe. Replace charcoal filters on ductless, recirculating hoods every three to six months.
A ducted hood sends smoke, heat and grease outside through a duct. A ductless, or recirculating, hood pulls air through grease and charcoal filters and returns it to the kitchen. Ductless hoods need regular charcoal filter changes to keep odors down.
Yes. We repair inline blowers mounted in the duct or attic and remote blowers mounted on an exterior wall or roof. Blowers in hot attics work harder in a Texas summer, so a noisy or weak remote blower is worth checking early.
Building codes often require a makeup air system for hoods that move more than 400 cubic feet per minute, so the house is not starved of air. Signs of a problem include weak suction with windows closed and doors that whistle when the hood runs. We can diagnose the hood, and a makeup air system itself is installed by an HVAC contractor.
Yes. We repair power packs and liners inside custom wood, plaster and metal hoods, and pro-style wall and island hoods from Vent-A-Hood, Wolf, Thermador, Best, Broan, Zephyr, Miele, Viking, Monogram and other premium brands.
Turn off the burner and cover the pan with a metal lid or baking sheet to smother the flames. Never use water. If the fire spreads or does not go out, leave and call 911. Have the hood and filters checked before using them again.
Usually, yes, for custom inserts, island and pro-style hoods, and for any hood under about 10 years old with a motor, switch, light or damper problem. Basic under-cabinet hoods are often cheaper to replace when the motor and controls both fail.
Most range hoods last about 15 years, and well-kept hoods can last up to 20. Cleaning filters regularly keeps grease from straining the motor and helps the hood last.
The cost depends on the problem and the part. We start with a diagnosis, then give you a clear repair estimate before any work begins. If you go ahead with the repair, the diagnostic fee is credited toward it. If you decide not to repair, you pay only the diagnostic fee.
Repairs carry a 90-day warranty for non-members and 6 months for ALAS members. The exact coverage is written on your invoice.
